Every year, music critics and analysts compile lists of rookie artistes who should be on the radar. These predictions have over the years served as a drive for hard work for upcoming artistes and those who strive to leave a landmark in the industry. A recent survey revealed that young people are so crazy about these acts such that they tend to put their songs on repeat and are also hungry to see them face to face. This year ushered in a new wave of music sensations with some of them showing serious signs of climbing up the ladder; while some are not so new to the industry, the urgency to become relevant push them into taking steps to stardom. City People’s Entertainment Reporter, PRECIOUS POMAA reveals a compilation of 10 new acts rocking the music scene. They also form the list of the rave of the moment in the music industry, enjoy.
REMA
He is popularly known as Rema but his real name is Divine Ikubor. He hails from Benin and was born in 2001. Rema is a fast-rising, Nigeria Hip Pop rapper, Afro-Pop beat singer, songwriter, entertainer, and recording artist. Rema started his music career in Benin City rapping in local churches and schools at a very tender age, while in school he went on to create his own Liveband and not quite long he was discovered by D Prince the CEO of Jonzing World Record and was introduced to the Mavins and later signed a contract record deal with Mavins Records and Jonzing World Record in late 2018. Rema is currently the biggest thing in Nigeria, he dropped an album with over 5 songs and they are all gaining massive airplay in and outside the country.
LYTA
They call him Lyta but his real name is Lawal Raheem. He was born on the 4th of July 1998 in Kwara State. Lyta is a singer, entertainer and songwriter who recently got signed to Doro music Gang. Lyta started doing music at the age of 13 and met Olamide at an event where he performed while being thrilled by his performance and was called up by the YBNL boss for some freestyle and that was how his story was changed for good. He recently left YBNL and was picked up by Doro music as his talent is one of a kind. Lyta is no doubt very good. He came to limelight after the release of his song Time which featured Olamide but before then, he featured Junior Boy on this same song, but Olamide rebranded the song and it became a big song in town and gained massive air plays within and outside the country. Since then, he has been dropping hits back to back including Ire cover by Adekunle Gold. FIRE BOY
He is better known as Fire Boy, but his real name Adedamola Adefolahan. He hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State. He studied English Language at Obafemi Awolowo University, IIe-Ife, where he was known for his love for music. His style of music is called ‘simply Afro’ with the blend of country and soul and he describes it in one word as Afro-Life. Fire Boy started singing at a very tender age and didn’t give up on his dream. He was discovered by Olamide and was signed into YBNL with no delay and he happens to sound and sing like Adekunle Gold. He recently dropped a single titled, Jealous, which talks about him being addicted to a girl and he gets jealous feeling she’s going out with other guys. He then dropped What If I Say. These songs are gaining massive airplay in and outside the country.
KING PERRY
Another promising artiste making our list is Afro-dancehall act, King Perryy. A graduate of Project Management from FUTO, the multi-talented artiste has released quite a number of tracks with his first entry titled “Number One” paving the way for him. Slowly gaining acceptance into the industry, he decided to churn out an impressive Highlife infused dance track dubbed “Walakolombo”, produced by Siktunez and accompanied by a Ruffikonz directed flick. In 2017, he also collaborated with Tinny Entertainment act, DapoTuburna, on the remix of Continental Boy. He is currently signed to Dem Mama Records owned by our very own music star Timaya and has released Man On Duty ft. Timaya and Murder ft.Teni, which is gaining massive airplay.
JOEBOY
Joseph Akinfenwa Donus better known as Joeboy is a singer and songwriter who started music at a very tender age and is currently making waves in the music industry with his hit song Baby. His song has gained massive airplay in and out of Nigeria. The song has caused a major hype online especially on twitter making all the ladies love it. The song talks about a boy telling his girlfriend he’s always available for her if she’s also there for him. Joeboy is surely one of the best new kids on the block.
BRAVO G
Anjorin Wasiu Adewale popularly known as (Bravo G) is an Afro Hip-Hop street artist who was born on 5/5/1991 in Imota Lagos but was brought up in Ikorodu, Lagos. He hails from Lagos State. He was born into a family of three (4) and he is the last born of the family. BRAVO G got his Secondary School Leaving Certificate at Isewu Senior High School, Ikorodu north in the year 2013. He started music at a very tender age then later discovered that he has the quality of a good vocalist and recording artist then he decided to give music a try. He then started singing and dropped Eko Ojina in 2012, which went global and viral but due to visual and lack of music experience had no one to follow up the song at that time. His presently not signed but Under A Management, Mmg World Music and he has dropped two singles under the management (DEPADA #aseniclienteh) is known worldwide with a fan base already in the UK, Cyprus Turkey and Dubai, etc, Uncle Yahoo ft. Idowest x Mr. Real. Standing Ovation which is currently trending all across Africa. He was featured in a hit track trending and making the street wave titled Who You Be by DJ Stormmy ft. Bravo G with some favorite lines like #YouBeYahooAbi? an ord derived from the Sars And There Behavior on how they treat the citizens. He has worked with so many artistes like Terry G, Solid Star, MI, YQ, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Zlatan.
TROD
They call him Trod but his real name is Olanipekun Olatubosun David. Trod is the younger brother of the late Naija King of rap, Oladapo Olaitan Olanipekun, popularly called Dagrin. You don’t need to be told that Trod is Dagrin brother because he shares the same look with his brother. He also talks like him. Trod has been doing music for over 5 to 6 years now, though he is not in any record label yet but still with the label his brother left behind Miso Funyin Entertainment. He recently featured Lyta; on his new tracks and it has gained massive air-plays, in and outside Lagos.
BOBBY JAZX
Oguntoyinbo Damilola David a.k.a. Bobby Jazx is one rave of the moment signed to Doro music gang. Bobby is an artist in every sense of the word. Not just a musical artiste but an artist, because he is all about expression, from his sense of style to his genre of music and even the cover art to his songs, show them featuring Zlatan. You can tell that he is just trying to tell his truth and all he wants is that we pay attention. He is greatly affiliated with the Lagos Alternative (Alte) scene as it seems that is the only setting where young artists can freely express themselves through art or music without fear of getting a side-eye or being judged.
IDAHAMS
Hart Idawarifaghalshmael better known as Idahams is a bunch of talent – he is a singer, producer, songwriter and entertainer. He started his music career at the age of 10 in the Anglican Church, Rivers State, where he played the keyboard, trumpet, bass guitar and other instruments. On the mainstream, Idahams has produced lots of artistes in Port Harcourt and Lagos, some of which are – Solidstar, Duncan Mighty, Kelly Hansom and Dany Boy. He also produced and co-wrote Double Jay’s hit song – “Bobo Juice” – a song that is still blazing the streets and airwaves of PH till date. Idahams was nominated at the 2015 Niger Delta Advancement Awards (NDAA) in the best producer category and even though he didn’t win, he went on to win Port Harcourt’s Best Producer later that year.
SHEHUARO
Shehu Uthmanharuna popularly known as (Shehuaro) is a Nigerian artist who was born on January 23, 1998, in Edo State but was brought up in Lagos. He hails from Kogi State. He was born into a polygamous family. SHEHUARO got his secondary school leaving certificate at Totland Secondary School, Ikorodu in 2016. He started music at the age of 14 with his brother Lawal (Elway) in Alapere, Ketu. He then moved to Ikorodu and got serious about it and met few friends that took him to the studio (Jefflarge) and (Paullarge). He is currently working as an independent artist and has dropped over 5 songs and two videos which are trending across Africa.
