BEFORE CORONAVIRUS(COVID-19) WAS Bonvine Spongiform Encephelopathy(BSE)MAD COW DISEASE

Long before the ravaging Coronavirus(COVID-19)pandemic,threw Nigeria and other parts of the world,into panic and sorrow,as a result of painful and sudden deaths, lockdowns and social/economic/political/religious somersaults,there had been a similar scourge in 1996,among cows though, particularly in Europe and the United States of America(USA).

Known as Bonvine Spongiform Encephelopathy(BSE),or “Mad Cow Disease”,the scourge tormented life out of cows,as the deadly COVID-19 is now pillaging the Earth.

Out of pity then for the animals,cows in whitemen’s land,I wrote an article titled,”FAR FROM THE MADDING COWS”;,which was published in the Sunday Times weekly issue of 19th May,1996.

While the article weighed heavily on the popular satire,”ANIMAL FARM”, written by the Irish satirist George Orwell (real name Eric Blair),I sympathized with the afflicted cows of Europe and the USA,much as I rejoiced with our local cows who were far removed from their fellows in foreign lands,and were thus saved from the afflicting scourge,the BSE(Mad Cow Disease).

Not anything out of good medical/veterinary care or nutretuos diet though,but by the mercy of Nature.

Does one talk about the wicked whackings from most of the herdsmen/owners/purchasers of our long-suffering cows(all animals and birds in general),or the long treks in search of food and water And what is water? Muddy,disease infested ponds,streams etc.

In my 1996 article under reference,I wrote partly that,”Oftentimes,during the long treks in search of food, our cows,sometimes act as ‘mediators’ between their dagger-wielding owners and landowners/farmers,when they get mad at each other over grazing rights!” How true now.

Unfortunately,the scenarios have gone worse now than when I wrote the above 24 years ago.

24 years ago,cows suffered a terrible scourge Today,it’s humans who are being tormented.We pray to God for mercy and the stoppage of COVID-19,and the quick discover y of vaccines/herbs with which to halt it’s spread.
