A civil society group, Free Nigeria Movement, has threatened to embark on another mass action to demand the release of human rights crusader and convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore.
The group made the announcement on Thursday following a court order granting the Department of State Services powers to further detain Sowore for 45 days.
In a statement signed by the group’s leader, Raphael Adebayo, in Abuja, the FNM said that the order was an indication that the court was no longer an institution of justice in which people could get justice.
Adebayo noted that there can never be peace in the absence of justice.
He said, “We are appalled by this ruling which is highly indicative of judicial injustice.
“It is a widely held belief that the court is the last refuge of the common man in any democratic society. But how come this fundamental principle of a democratic society is being upended so cavalierly in Nigeria?
“Ordering the DSS to further detain Sowore, the court has made it clear that it is far from being an institution of justice in which the people can trust.”
The group, however, stated that a society that is quick in persecuting ordinary citizens than prosecuting thieving elites, is a society heading towards unbridled anarchy.
The FNM, therefore, asked the government to release Sowore in the interest of peace, adding that his continuous detention would only hasten the revolution, which has already begun in different parts of the country.
