The Badagry Unit of Federal Road Safety Corps says driving against traffic contributes largely to accidents on the Badagry-Seme expressway.
Mr Fatai Bakare, the Unit Commander on Friday in Badagry said that the drivers on the route were often apprehended for was reckless driving.
“Driving against traffic is a major cause of accidents on that route and many motorists drive against traffic.
“Badagry is a border area, so there is high vehicular movement in the axis. Many of them tend to drive recklessly and this causes accidents in the area.
“Overloading is another frequent traffic offence, but the command carries out various enlightenment programmes to advise the public on the need to desist from such practices.
“Our officials are always located at strategic places to check and correct traffic offenders so as to limit all forms of traffic violations,’’ he said.
Bakare said that the commission had provided the necessary tools for its officers to perform their duties effectively.
“Acquilizers, patrol vehicles, amongst others, have been provided for the command to discharge its duties effectively and most importantly, we have the staff strength.
“The use of acquilizers has reduced the cases of drunk driving and we always advice drivers not to drink while driving and vice versa.
“Our officials are always located at the Badagry roundabout all day so as to control traffic in that area to ease the pain of motorists who ply the road regularly,” he said.
The commander advised motorists to always check their tyres and ensure they have the correct air pressure before embarking on any journey.
