The Lagos state ministry of health has announced the discharge of 48 patients who received treatment for COVID-19.

In a tweet on Thursday evening, the ministry said the patients – 16 females and 32 males – were discharged from the isolation centres in Yaba, Lekki, Onikan and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

“*️⃣48 more #COVID19Lagos patients; 16 females & 32 males; all Nigerians have been discharged from our Isolation facilities at Yaba, Lekki, Onikan & @LUTHofficial to reunite with the society,” the tweet read.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, also confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday evening.

With the 48 persons discharged on Thursday, 406 recoveries have now been recorded in the state.

“I’m pleased to announce to you the discharge of 48 more patients; 32 males and 16 females, all Nigerians who were discharged from our Yaba, Lekki, Onikan and Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) isolation facilities to reunite with the society,” it read.

“The patients, 28 from the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, 6 from Lekki, 1 from Onikan and 13 from LUTH Isolation Centres were discharged having fully recovered and tested negative to #COVID19 in two consecutive readings.

“With this new development, the number of #COVID19 confirmed cases that have been successfully managed and discharged in Lagos stands at 406.”

He added that despite the increase in the number of discharged patients, residents need to “be careful, remain guarded, and show commitment and cooperation with authorities as we are all in this together”.

With 1,308 cases as of May 6, 2020, Lagos accounts for almost 50 per cent of Nigeria’s total of 3,145 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
