GRACE High School Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Grace High School, Gbagada Estate Lagos ranked one of top 20 schools in Lagos since inception in October 1994 and it has scheduled a five-day event to mark her 25th Anniversary of laudable existence. The great citadel of learning has become a force to reckon with in the Nigeria Education Sector owning to her producing students with academic excellence and high-level moral standard which makes them stands out among their peers, within and outside the country.

Grace High school students have proficiency in Chinese and French and emerged 1st position in the Chinese Bridge i.e Chinese Proficiency competition In Nigeria and have been winning more laurels.

The dream, vision, aspiration and commitment of the founder, Deaconess Grace Bisola Oshinowo, was conceived in 1967 to contribute to the educational upliftment and development of our great country Nigeria gave birth to the establishment of Grace Children School in 1968 and thereafter the establishment of Grace High School in 1994. The dream was nurtured with excellence and has grown to become a formidable force in society.

The Silver Jubilee celebration of Grace High School started on the 2nd day of October 2019 to commemorate the 59th year celebration of Nigeria’s Independence at the school ground in Gbagada with several side attractions and programmes. The teacher and students were dressed in green and white, which is the national colour. The student had varieties of programmes which was more about the unity in cultural diversity and how an individual can impact the nation at large positively in their little space. The students had songs, dance, and choreography in diverse ethnic groups.

The 3rd of October, 2019 was the founder’s day and prize-giving day to celebrate the founder of the school with different activities including speeches, seminars, music and comedy. On the 3rd of October, 1994, late deaconess Grace Bisola Oshinowo founded Grace High School and that day is used as a memorial to celebrate her. Prizes were given to exceptional students in various fields.

 The 4th day of October was the creation of a time capsule. The management created a Time Capsule for the High School. The time capsule is a box which is the archive of every item that represents the school including books, uniforms, sport wears, socks, blazers, hats, handbills, fliers, the programme of school events, souvenirs, naira notes to mention but a few.

The 5th day in October 2019 was scheduled for Novelty Match which did not hold.

The grand final was on Sunday 6th, October 2019, at the Prestigious Havilah Event Centre, Oniru, Lagos. The thanksgiving service and celebration was themed praise with us the God of Grace. The service started at 12 noon with an opening prayer by the school chaplain Pastor Jackson Nsoh. Grace voice which is also the school choir led the praise and worship. Ale Ifeoluwa [Head Boy] read the first Bible reading prior to the congregational hymn. The students of Grace High School rocked a denim shirt while the staff wore the Ankara Aso- Ebi. Teaching and non-teaching staff rocked different gorgeous designs of the Aso-Ebi and white headgear and cap.  In Grace High School, Multi intelligence is encouraged and student are trained to groom their talents in singing, dancing, acting, choreography, photography, newscasting, sporting activities to mention, but a few and they have made the school proud within and outside the country.

Mrs Iyiola Olatokunbo Edun, Executive Director/Administrator, Grace Schools spoke on 25 years of Grace High School. It has been a journey that was filled with diverse experience and we have enjoyed God’s Grace Immeasurably, she said. She recounted how the school started with 34 students and how God has increased them numerically. She welcomed guests, parents and students who were present. The event continued with presentations from Grace Orchestral, Graceful Voices and thanksgiving rendition by the choir.

Mrs Iyiola Olatokunbo Edun also unveiled the “Time Capsule” which is a box filled with school uniform, sportswear, blazers, socks, books, souvenirs, textbooks, hostel wear to mention but a few. The “TIME CAPSULE” is an archive that would be unlocked in another 25 years. She invited 10 students who joined her on the stage and one of the Bensons generations locked the time capsule and promised to be available for the unveiling in 2044. The “time capsule” is like a school museum and the younger generations can understand the history of the school better.

Dr. [Mrs. ] Stella Olagunju, the principal and Mr Shope Edun the Alumni co-ordinator anchored the presentation of awards to Old Staff and Alumni of the school. Members of staff who had been working with the school for more than 20 years were rewarded with an award and cash gifts their meritorious service. The awardees include Mrs S.M. Olajide,{25 years}, Mrs O.J Awodoye {23 years}, Mr C.A Okolo {22 years}, Mr A.R. Salau {21 years}, Mr P.A.Adefemi and  Mr R.E Akpan {20 years}. The school alumni awardees include Idahosa Osagie{Head of Operations James Mavrick films}, Olakunle Abdul, Mr Demola Edun to mention but a few. Mr Phillip Balogun Vice Principal Admin ensured that the event was a success.

Students joined the school administrators in the cutting of the anniversary cake and photo session. VDJ  Kenzo was the official disc jockey for the day and he did justice to the event by playing the latest hip hop songs. The Nigerian NAVY Music Band thrilled the audience with entertaining songs. The academic and non-academic staff could not hold their joy as they joined the students on the dance floor. VDJ

R. O. Williams, Dr Mrs Ireti Kareem, Mr Bode Wilson, Mr Albert Solomon, Mrs Amaka Daniels.
