•Wins City People Fashion Award For Her Dress Sense

If you meet Channels pretty newscaster, Anne Nonyelumnwa Nwaghodo outside of work, and you didn’t know her from Adam, your first impressions would be that she must be a showbiz girl or a fashion designer. That’s how pretty and glamorous she looks when she steps out for events. To start with, she’s a drop dead gorgeous looking lady with a fabulous figure whose beauty you could’ve sworn was made for the movies. And while you’re taking all of that in, she takes your breath away with her stunning outfits that often make her cut the picture of a model straight out of Vogue magazine. Her love for fashion and thirst for quality outfits simply stands her out. But, perhaps what makes Anne the complete package is the substance she possesses inside her along with her undeniable beauty. She is intellectually gifted and this distinguishes her from her peers. It also reflects in her superb delivery of the news she casts nearly every day on Channels TV. Call her one of Channels TV brightest prospects and you wouldn’t possibly be off the mark. Without a doubt, this babe is smoking hot, yet she carries herself with graceful humility, like one who has absolutely no idea how truly gorgeous she looks.

Anne was recognized at the recently held City People Online Fashion and Beauty awards. After receiving her award, it was an ecstatic Anne that spent a few minutes chatting with City People’s Senior Editor, WALE LAWAL (08037209290) and opened up on her background, how she got into broadcasting and how she developed her love for fashion. Enjoy excerpts of the interview.

Congratulations on the award you just received. Many were surprised to see you because its not often that organizers of awards like this go out to pick nominees from the broadcast industry. How does it make you feel?

Well, this makes me feel really great because I grew up loving City People. I grew up admiring City People. So, when I got the call I was like, really? Thank you, City People, thank you Dr. Seye Kehinde. He’s an amazing man and meeting him recently has made me know why City People is an amazing platform. So, I thank him for the awards, I’m grateful and I’m happy I got it. I’ve always been a fashionista so that’s why I think I connect with City People. This also has inspired me to know that I can go into fashion, really. If I’m getting an award for it shows I’m doing something really nice so I think I will consider it with this award.

You look absolutely gorgeous tonight. You’re not in anyway looking like a broadcaster, you look more like a practitioner of the fashion or showbiz industry….

Oh, really? Thank you, I appreciate.

How did that part of you evolve?

From when I was a child, I’ve always liked putting on something different, growing my own outfit. When my mum takes the materials to the seamstress, I draw mine myself and say this is how I want mine to be. And I still sketch my own outfits till today and I know how to mix and match, so I think it’s always been in me.

Aside from the fact that you grew up designing your own outfits, who were those who influenced you at the time?

I liked Yeye Funke Daniel. I used to love her head tie a lot. Some of the newscasters on NTA in those days used to dress really well. I loved the simplicity of Eugenia Abu and some other top people I can’t remember now but maybe if I think back I will remember some of those great people who inspired me, who I used to look up to in terms of fashion.

Any plans to do something within the fashion line sometime in the future?

I think so. I seem to do it effortlessly, so I believe sometime in the future I could go into fashion.

How long does it take you to get ready for an event like this? How long did it take you to get ready for today’s event?

Like today, I think I did like one hour. I’m not the extreme make up person, I just like it simple and nice but still classy. So, max, I spend one hour. But its different when I’m reading the news though. When I’m reading the news, I can do my make up in 10 minutes.

What’s that fashion accessory you can’t possibly do without?

I love jewelry a whole lot and I invest in them too. You’ll never see me step out without one.

But I can see you still keep it modest though?

Yes, modest, definitely.

Let’s talk about broadcasting, how did you get into it, was it by chance or something you actually planned for?

I think it was just God’s will to get into broadcasting because some time ago one of my primary school classmates called me and said, Anne, do you remember when we were in primary two you used to be our newscaster? I didn’t even remember, I forgot about all that. Apparently, in primary school I used to read the news every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to the whole assembly. It was like a proper news with microphone and sitting down and all that. At the start, I wanted to become a medical doctor but somehow, God said, no, you’re going to become a mass communicator and eventually a broadcaster.

Did you start out with Channels?

No, I started with Splash fm Ibadan, 105.5. I started with radio, did four years with radio before I moved to Channels. I’ve been with Channels for six years now.

Where were you born and raised?

Oyo, Alaafin (laughs).

Really? But you’re from where actually?

I am from Onicha-Ugbo in Delta state. My mum is from Imo state, so I’m from Onicha-Ugbo in Delta but I speak Igbo very well and I speak Yoruba very well too.

What should we expect from you in the next couple of years?

Watch this space, look out for the fashionista Anne. Look out for the Anne who will be coming to your door step to say I’m now into fashion, patronize me, may be, I don’t know (laughs). But I believe if it gets to that point I think I’ll do it effortlessly.

I want to assume you’re still single?

Yes, I am but I’m not searching (smiles).

Tell us, what kind of man will excite you?

I don’t like a noisy man. I like when a man is calm but strict in a little way because I can be very stubborn sometimes. I also like a man who is focused, who is dedicated to God a lot because I’m so dedicated to God. Everything God is me. So, a man with these kinds of attributes is my kind of man.
