Ogun State Security Trust Fund

The Ogun State Security Trust Fund is a vital arm of the Ogun State government helping to provide adequate security across the state. It was established under the Ogun State Security Trust Fund Law of 2011 as amended by the Ogun State Security Trust Fund (Amendment) Law of 2019 to

(A) to provide money for the acquisition and deployment of security equipment and such human, material and financial resources as shall be necessary to prevent crime and preserve crime and preserve public security

(B) To promote the efficiency of all the security agencies in the state

(C) To hold for the benefit of all residents of the state, gifts, property and money

(D) To acquire and deploy security equipment and such other resources as shall be necessary for achieving the objectives of the Fund

(E) To reserve part of the Fund for the training and retraining of security personnel in the state

The functions of the Security Trust Fund Board include management of the Fund; procurement and maintenance of equipment; protecting assets of the Fund through insurance; advising the governor on activities of federal, state and local government security, para-military and law enforcement agencies; sharing information on security with relevant security agencies; investment of part of the Fund “on commercial interest rate in any reputable bank in Nigeria…”; raising money for the fund through voluntary subscriptions and donations; and “regulate the activities of the private security agencies”

Ogun State Security Trust Fund (OGSTF) was relaunched and reinvigorated on August 24, 2019. We held our inaugural stakeholders’ dinner with His Excellency Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun on October 6, 2019 at which we intimated stakeholders with our vision and mission, strategy, governance and institutional arrangements and funding priorities.

At the stakeholders’ dinner, the undersigned shared OGSTF’s vision of “a safe, secure and prosperous Gateway State” and mission of “mobilising stakeholders and harnessing resources for a safe, secure and prosperous Gateway State”. I also shared our TRACK core values of Transparency, Resourcefulness, Accountability, Commitment and Knowledge as well as our funding priorities geared towards achieving our mission. I emphasized that OGSTF’s board has pledged to uphold the highest standards of governance, transparency, and accountability to all our stakeholders, especially donors.

At the event, individuals and businesses in attendance made significant pledges and donations to the Ogun State Security Trust Fund in support of the identified funding priorities which include patrol vehicles and motorcycles, communication equipment, aerial and maritime patrols, drones and other technological resources, support for formal and informal security agencies and training and insurance scheme for security officials.

Within the last nine (9) months, OGSTF has provided the security agencies within the state with: (1) 116 fully equipped patrol vehicles + fuelling, servicing, and maintenance. (2) 125 fully equipped patrol motorcycles + fuelling, servicing, and maintenance. (3) Insured all patrol vehicles and motorcycles (4) Tyre Protection installation on all vehicles and motorcycle.        (5) 500 Walkie-Talkies to the state police command and related security agencies. (6) 3 sets of Control Room facilities. (7) 500 CUG Mobile Phones (8) 5500 Face Masks. (9) 4500 Surgical Masks (10) Internet (Walkie-Talkies and Mobiles Phones) (11) Toll freeline for police control room, and more.

All these were achieved with donations received from ESTATE OF SOFOLA
