Tells City People
At the just-concluded 2021 City People Movie Awards, one of the movie stars at the event was Kolawole Ajeyemi. Apart from being a talented actor, this handsome guy is the husband of star actress, Toyin Abraham.
Kola Ajeyemi who is popularly called Awilo, was at the City People Movie Award to represent his wife who received the Movie Icon Of The Year Award. He spoke on how he and his wife have been able to make their marriage work. Below are excerpts of the interview.
Congratulations on the award you have just received on behalf of your wife. How do you feel?
We all know that it’s not easy like I said, but we give glory to God. Because with God we believe all things are possible.
What project should we be expecting from you?
Oh, I have a lot of projects right now. My hands are full. We still have Oosa, The Return of Oosa. Jamal, Teminikan, Scorn and so on.
Those who follow you on Instagram knows about your clothing and shoe line…
(cuts in).. Yes ooo..don’t mind me, that’s Kolawole clothing and shoes..
How is the acceptability like so far?
Certainly. I have outlined my plans in consonance with when I intend to achieve them. And so far, so good, It’s been working for me. Fashion is part of me and I intend to influence the fashion industry with my craft. I create new styles for every design and people love it. Our orders are quite enormous, but we thank God, we are coping to satisfy our teeming customers. Our clients are happy with our designs and our fans are happy with our movies.
When you what you want and you know what you want to give out. For Kolawole Clothing And Shoes, It’s been an exciting journey.
Was the fashion line part of the plan?
Of course.. That’s my plan, for everybody that knows me. That’s what I intended to do alongside movies. I am a fashionista that loves to inspire. All that I am doing now, I have them o my head long before I made them all happen one after the other. Better things are coming my brother.
You are one of the few people who have been tipped as the best-dressed celebrities in the Nigerian movie industry…
Awww. Thank you so much
What inspires your fashion style?
Oh. My parents. I am inspired by my mother and father. They dress so well that I admired them while I was young and I look forward to being admired just as people admire them. My mother is a great fashionista who knows how to mix colours, she knows the right shoes that match the right clothing for the right outing. My father is late but my mother is very much alive. I learned the rope from them.
With the perception of your fans, many people see you as a more reserved and introverted personality, while your wife is an extrovert who plays a lot and more assertive in the social space. How do you manage the variance as a couple?
Oh. Not a problem at all. That’s how things roll. The Yoruba people had said, someone has to be out (Outspoken) and the other has to be in (reserved) to make any marriage perfect. I am not saying we are cotton-wool-white perfect, but we understood each other to the brim. I know my wife as an assertive type and I respect her nature. She is likeable for who she is and that’s what has been working for her. It will be insensitive of me to try to mould her into my kind of person. It is her person that makes her succeed in her craft and business.
For me, being quiet and reserved works for me. She understands that too and she copes with my quiet nature. You see that’s the compatibility that allows both of us to thrive so far.
Nothing can change and that’s my wife nature. I don’t want to change because it’s not easy for you to change the person when you know that’s her true nature. She’s at her best when she’s herself and I am at my best when I’m playing myself. Changing her will mean drawing her back from her personality.
So I love her for being Toyin that she is, and she does so for being me.
What’s your relationship with other Nigerian actors?
Oh.. smooth, we are good. We work together and get along fine. You’ll see great actors in my coming movies. Watch out, my brother.
