I thank God who has made me stand till today.
I thank my mother, Aminatu Shadia. I thank the one who has stood by me like a father His Imperial Majesty, Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba of Ijebu, I also than His Royal Majesty, Adetunji Akanmu Saliu Adeeyo, who gave me all.
I thank the one who made me a legend in Fuji music, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. I thank Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who adopted me and trained like his own son. I thank my wife Fatia Adufe and my children. I especially thank the almighty king, Olayiwola, Ikubabayeye, who made me a newborn, I thank all the Queens, I thank God for the journey of 11 years, I thank you your highness and I am grateful. The Alaafin has taken me as his son. I am part of his family now.
I thank God that you chose to bless Ijebu clan. The Awujaale had told me there is a mutual relationship between Ijebu and Oyo. I thank you for the great assignment you have given me to unite the Yoruba family.
I have consulted the galaxy of Obas and they endorse the task. I have consulted Oba Akiolu, I have consulted the Ooni, and all the might kings in Yorubaland and they all showed love and support. The work you have given me is to ensure that peace reigns in all the Yorubaland.
This is a journey of 11 years. 11 years ago that Kabiyesi first, muttered the idea of honouring me like today, he asked me to go and learn the rudiments of life and leadership before I take up the responsibility. And I stand here before you today, I pledge my total commitment to the progress, unification, of the whole Yoruba home and abroad, and anywhere the language is spoken.
I want to use this opportunity to correct some misconceptions. The honour and title given to me go beyond my constituency as a musician. Fuji music was given to me as a responsibility in the area of leadership by late Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. I have continued to my pledge to say, henceforth, what united, what binds everybody together will be my cause.
I will also like to declare here that my responsibility as Maiyegun of Yoruba goes beyond fuji, but all strata of society that makes Nigeria a united country. But let me throw this to all musicians of note, here present, those that are not here for one reason or the other that we should all sheath our swords and unite in peace and oneness. I am not saddled with the responsibility that goes beyond Fuji music.
If there is anyone whom I may have offended, I profoundly apologize, forgive me for the sake of Olayiwola Alaafin. If there is anyone who still holds grudge against me, I apologize for the sake of the Alaafin and the spirit of my new responsibility.
Let all the musician rejoice because you now have a representative in Maiyegun. Let all the politicians rejoice, you now have a representative in Maiyegun. All that is left for me is appreciation.
