World famous American singer, John Legend now has an EGOT in his kitty, becoming the youngest person to have the prestigious quartet of awards.

EGOT is an acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscars and Tony awards. Winners of the quartet attain showbiz icon status.

Legend also made history as the first black man to win the four awards.

The ‘Ordinary People’ singer on Sunday won the Creative Arts Emmys for his role in NBC’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar, Live in Concert’.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, both involved in the stage production, also joined Legend as new EGOT winners.

Webber, Rice and Legend became the 13th, 14th, and 15th people in history to have EGOT.

Legend, who has won 10 Grammy awards, said: “When I got into the music business it was a dream of mine to win Grammys and have plenty of success as a musician and sell lots of records and tour around the world as a performer, but I never had a dream of winning an EGOT, I didn’t even know what that was at the time.”

The singer later took to Instagram to comment on his achievement.

“Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony in competitive categories,” Legend wrote on Instagram.

“Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar. So happy to be part of this team. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.”
