As part of efforts to boost the Tourism potentials of Ile-Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Arole Oodua, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Spiritual head of the Yoruba has decided to partner with Oba Adejuyigbe Alladaxonour Egunjobi Adefunmi 11, the Oloyotunji of Oyotunji in South Carolina, USA and paramount ruler of the Yorubas in North America to present a programme titled Back To My Roots- Nigeria.

It is to promote the mass home coming visit, tour and migration to Nigeria, Africa of African Americans and persons of African descent in the Diaspora, their spiritual and ancestral home to experience a feeling of belonging to the land of their ancestors and develop same, Ife Tourism, led by the Ooni of Ife and the Oyotunji Economic, Cultural and Tourism Diplomatic Office in Nigeria, led by Oloyotunji PROCLAIM 2017-2024 as the “Back To My Roots, Nigeria For The People Of African Descent In The Diaspora”.

This was formally launched during the royal home coming visit of Oloyotunji to Ile-lfe, Nigeria last weekend April 2017, and marked with various landmark programmes and events.

Back To My Roots is designed as a BACK TO NIGERIA -Africa Movement presented by the African America and Diaspora Affairs Section of the Oyotunji Economic, Cultural & Tourism Diplomatic Office in Nigeria in collaboration with Ife Tourism to be led and driven by HIM Arole Oodua, Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi Ojaja II and Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II, supported by Ambassador to the Crown and Kingdom of Oyotunji SC, USA, Rotimi Vaughan’s Nigerian American Family Story of Slavery, Freedom, Dignity, Elevation of the Black Race, highlighting a true identity of a Nigerian African American who returned home to Nigeria in the 19th century, and successfully rebuilt and planted new roots in Nigeria.

 WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES AND VISION?

  • To make Nigeria become the destination of choice for Diasporans looking for a spiritual home and an ancestral connection in Africa.
  • To reach out to the 200 million African Americans and Diasporans resident in the Americas who have identified themselves as of African Descent-American expatriates, artists, activists, tourists to embark on an “ATLANTIC TOURISM & MIGRATION TO NIGERIA” by Visiting, Returning and Re-settling In Nigeria, Planting New Roots In Their Motherland- Nigeria.
  • To Promote, advocate and Ensure Africans Americans and Diasporans make Nigeria their New Home, taking advantage of the Economic, Business and Investment Opportunities readily available and awaiting them in their African Ancestral Home-Nigeria.
  • To Promote to African Americans and people of African descent worldwide, the “Touring and Living in Accommodating NIGERIA, with Hospitable Nigerians Package”, – A Place That Will Make Them Feel Connected And Celebrated Like Never Before, While Providing A Perfect Platform For Them To Rekindle A Long Lost Connection And Experience together with a Gratifying, Fulfilling and Satisfying Spiritual And Ancestral Connection To Their Roots In Africa.

To set up of the appropriate organizational frameworks for encouraging African Americans and Diasporans to visit and migrate to Nigeria to develop their ancestral home and the African Continent as a whole.

THE IMMEDIATE ACTION PLAN

  • The establishment of the “African American and Diasporan Association of Nigeria”.
  • The establishment of the “African American and Diasporan Political, Economic and Cultural Exchange Programme-Nigeria”.
  • The introduction through the passing of appropriate laws, of an “African American-Diasporan Right of Permanent Residency In Nigeria Policy” by virtue of which all persons of African Descent would upon application gain Permanent Residency in Nigeria, thereby permitting them to freely live and come and go into and from Nigeria without any hindrance.

PROGRAMME AND EVENTS

Back To My Roots NIGERIA is set to operate as a proactive movement set to present various initiative, programmes and events in furtherance of the 2017-2024 PROCLAMATION by the Oonirisa and Oloyotunji as the “Back To My Roots, Nigeria For The People Of African Descent In The Diaspora”.

The programme and events will kick off in April 2017 with the following:

  • The Formal Launch of BRN by the Ooni of Ife and Oloyotunji, at the Back To My Roots Nigeria Gala Night scheduled to take place in Ile Ife in April 2017.
  • lIe-lfe-Oyotunji Interactive Roundtable 2017: Theme: “Attaining Sustainable Economic Growth & Long Lasting Commercial Relations Through Cultural And Cross-Continental Heritage Tourism in April 2017.
  • North American-Diaspora Diplomats In Nigeria Interactive Dinner Night With HIM Arole Oodua, Ooni of ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II and Oloyotunji of Oyotunji, HRM Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II in April 2017.

After the month of April 2017, the following programmes and events are scheduled for implementation:

Oyotunji-Nigeria National Diaspora Cultural Heritage Celebration, Sheldon, South Carolina Usa 2017- July-August 2017.: A 2 week Grand Celebration of Nigerla-Yoruba Cultural Heritage, tradition and arts in South Carolina, USA.

“Back To My Roots NIGERIA” Osun Festival Diaspora Experience 2017: A fully packaged Travel, Tour and Visit For African Americans and Diasporans to Osun State in August 2017 to experience amongst others, the Osun festival in Oshogbo.

The “Badagry Diaspora Festival” Travel & Tour Package 2017: A fully packaged Travel, Tour and Visit For African Americans and Diasporans to Badagry in August 2017 to experience amongst others, the Badagry Diaspora Festival in Badagry, Lagos State.

The Back to My Roots-NIGERIA lIe-lfe-Oyotunji Yoruba Cultural Promotions and Tour of North America 2017-2020: A Yoruba Cultural Tour of the 23 independent countries in North America promoting, exhibiting and rekindling the Yoruba Culture and Tradition, advocating Unity, Peace and Togetherness amongst then Yoruba Race worldwide, while featuring a Back To My Motherland Land, Nigeria crusade to the people of African descent in these regions to embark on a home coming, tour and visit of their ancestral home to develop same, through investments and the like.

  • The Ile-lfe Back To my Roots Diaspora Festival: A festival to be established to hold in Ile-Ife annually aimed at showcasing Ile-Ife, Osun State, presenting a festival of international standard with diasporic contents.

The festival will set out to promote matters relating to Returning To Ancestral and Spiritual Home, Planting New Roots in Motherland Africa, Cultural Exchange, Experiencing the Power of Culture, Arts and Tourism in Attaining Economic Growth and Transformation, Unity, Friendship, Cooperation, and Strong Relations, Engagement and Reintegration, serving as a historical and cultural bridge between mother Africa and the African descents in the Diaspora.

The Diaspora Ile-Ife Youth Development Fund: A Youth Developmental Fund by the Diasporans in general for the funding of specific Youth Development Project in Ile-Ife considered and approved by the HIM  Arole Oodua, Ooni of Ife as worthy youth programmes that would effectively contribute to the development of the youths, in a bid to building a new generation of nation building youths that can make a difference in our society.

 THe Atlantic Bond American City, Ile-Ife: State of the art developmental project for the construction of the Atlantic Bond American City, Ile-lfe- A large spaced out Nigerian-American theme resort complex. Divided into five districts mixed used complex: commercial, residential comprising uniquely built combined Nigerian American design diverse type accommodation, providing opportunities for African Americans and people of African descents in the Diaspora, who wish to explore a home commalls, mini golf course, mini heritage museum, farmlands, market centres, and so on.

The Oyotunji-Ile-Ife Agriculture, Farming & Food Production Programme: A strategic cooperation between lIe-lfe, Osun State and Oyotunji Village, Sheldon, South Carolina, the United States of America, the North American Continent in promoting, building and attaining impact, meaningful and viable bi-relations in Agriculture, Farming and Food Production.
