All is set for the final rites and burial of late veteran actor/comedian, Pa Ola Omonitan aka ‘Ajimajasan’. The burial programme, according to his family, holds on April 4th and 5th, 2019 in Ibadan. It is going to be a 2-day befitting burial ceremony for the late movie icon. On Thursday, 4th April, 2019, there will be a Lying in State at the historical Ibadan Cultural Centre, Mokola and NTA, Agodi, Gate, Ibadan at 12pm and 2pm respectively. By 4pm same day, Christian Wake takes place at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium), Ibadan.
Funeral service will hold the following day, 5th April, 2019, at CAC Olugbode, Odo-Ona, Apata, Ibadan, while the remains of the deceased will be interred after the church service, at Abailori, Rotimi Odebunmi Street, along All Saints College, Gbekuba, Ibadan. Reception and entertainment of guests hold immediately after the interment, at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium), Ibadan.
Recalled that Pa Olanipekun Omonitan popularly known in the Yoruba movie industry as ‘Ajimajasan’ or ‘Baba No Regret’ died on 18th October, 2018, duing a prolonged illness, at the age of 82. He will be remembered for his acting skills and immense contributions to the development of Yoruba movie industry.
He was also one of the foremost Nigerian comedians to stage a comedy series on television for one year back then in 80’s. Some of his productions include “Ogun Late”, Bata Whahala, Omo State Le and others. Ajimajasan’s popular works also include Omi Okun.
He started drama at the age of 18 in the 50’s at WNBC/WNTV with the likes of Ayinla Olumegbon, Duro’ Ladipo, Kola Ogunmola, Akin Ogungbe, Oyin Adejobi all of blessed memory. He was the youngest of them all.
In 1968, Ajimajasan formed ‘Omonitan Theatre Group’, the 10-man group had Arikuyeri, Oloye Ajere, Jacob, Papalolo, Aderupoko, Iya Ijebu, Adamson, Baba Eleko and Ajimajasan as members. The trio of Kayode Olaiya (Aderupoko), Jacob and Ayo Ogunshina (Papalolo) later went to form their own group.
