The popular town of Sagamu has produced many sons and daughters who have excelled in their chosen careers all over the world.
They are well to do, and they have carved a very good niche that is speaking for them. Check any sector in Nigeria today, even in Sports, Sagamu sons & daughters are representing well, both locally and internationally.
Having attained a greater height in life, in 1972, some of the prominent indigenes came together, and thought of how they could make an impact in the lives of their kinsmen and contribute to the growth of their community i.e. giving back to the community, and they founded what is today called Sagamites Club, with a strong vision to be the pre-eminent club across the entire Ogun State in shaping the socio-economic standards of their community. With the aims and objectives to seek, promote and protect closer friendly relationship amongst members to work for the advancement and development of Sagamu and eradication of sectionalism therein, to pursue with determination the establishment of sound and progressive business ventures, to encourage educational achievement among youths of Sagamu origin, to participate actively in all initiatives towards the unity and progress of Remoland and finally, to cooperate with other clubs or associations with a view to achieving the above objectives.
Sagamites Club members comprise of the following categories, Regular Members, Honorary Members, Recreation Members and Life Members. (1) Regular Membership category is for sons of Sagamu not below the age of 30 with good moral character and good reputation. (2) Honourary Membership is conferred on non-Sagamu Indigenes who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of endeavour and have contributed in a great measure to the development of Sagamu.
(3) Recreation Membership is meant for friends who cannot be regular members of the club by the fact that they are not indigenes of Sagamu and important businessmen and government officials resident around Sagamu.
(4) Life Membership, a category reserved for regular members of the club who are 75 years and above and who have consistently been regular members of the club for at least 25 years and who have contributed immensely to the development of the club during their active years.
Having been a member of Sagamite through any of these categories comes with rights and responsibilities. For Regular members, all rights and responsibilities as stipulated by the constitution and convention of the club shall apply at all times. For Honourary Members, they shall enjoy all rights like regular members of the club including attendance at the regular meetings of the club but would not be eligible to vote or be voted for, they shall not be required to pay any monthly dues to the club; they shall be required to attend important functions of the club for which he is invited, they shall be required to use their connections and influence to uplift The Sagamites Club, they shall be required to make generous donations to the club whether or not they are prompted to, they shall be required to offer useful advice for the progress of the club spontaneously or when called upon to do so, and they shall be required to attend at least one meeting of the club in a year (Preferably the AGM).
For Recreation Members, they shall have access to club facilities, they shall be free to bring friends to the club as well, they shall not be eligible to attend meetings of regular members, they shall be required to pay annual dues/development fee to the club, they may be required to partake in clubhouse activities, and they may also partake in the out of the club social activities of other members of the club.
And for Life Members, they shall enjoy all rights normally enjoyed by regular members, they shall not be required to make any financial contribution to the club, they shall be required to attend meetings and all activities of the club until he no longer can, they shall be relieved of paying any fine, they shall always work towards the progress and development of the club, and lastly they may make financial and material donation to the club.
Sagamites Club is loaded with lots of high and mighty, CEOs, and top officials in government parastatals and in different sectors.
