Ijebu Heritage Club is one of the prominent clubs in Ijebuland with many successful Ijebu sons as members. They include the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. The President of the club is Otunba Olalekan Bello. The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikirulai Adetona has a soft spot for members of the club. Below, City People’s OGUN Correspondent BUNMI MUSTAPHA brings you the list of the members of the club.
Otunba Olalekan Bello is the Chairman of Ijebu Heritage Club. He is a Stockbroker, Investment Banker & Administrator. He is the Managing Director of FCSL Asset Management. He began his professional career in United Bank for Africa in 1978 after his National Youth Service Corps. After several years in banking in various capacities, he left Fidelity Bank from where he rose to the position of General Manager in 1993, to establish the F&CSL Group, a Stockbroking and Financial Services Company.
In 2003, he was appointed Commissioner for Finance, Ogun State, and was responsible for policy formulation, budget implementation, revenue generation, and effective utilization of statutory allocation.
Prince Folu Aderibigbe. He is the Secretary to the club. He is also the Chief Sales and Marketing Officer (CSMO).
He has over two decades working experience cutting across the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Manufacturing sectors of the economy. As the CSMO, Folu is driving the acquisition of the Company’s customers, its revenue goals and the general direction and management of all sales and marketing activities.
Oluwatoyin OKEOWO is another member of Ijebu Heritage Club. He holds a Masters degree (M.Sc) in Management Science & Technology from the University of Wales Institute of Science & Technology. He was a former lecturer in the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Lagos.
He is currently the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Motors Limited (an accredited Dealer of Toyota Nigeria Limited in Nigeria).
He is an active member of the Anglican Church in Nigeria. He is the Treasurer of the Supra-Diocesan Board West comprising of 40 Dioceses. He is a member of the Governing of the Archbishop Vining College of Theology, Akure, Emmanuel College of Technology, Ibadan and Ezekiel College of Theology, Ekpoma.
Prof. Toyin Ashiru is another member of the club. He is a Materials and Metallurgical Engineer is a graduate of the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK where he obtained B.Sc in Materials Science and Engineering. He concluded his Ph.D at the University of Birmingham, UK in Industrial Metallurgy in 1983.
Toyin Ashiru has utilized his diverse experiences in the academia and industry to provide technical advisory services for the enhancement of productivity in major Oil and Gas industries worldwide. He has served as Consultant to NNPC, SHELL, CHEVRON, EXXONMOBIL, ADDAX, SAUDI ARAMCO, QATAR OIL, etc. He has also served worldwide on various governmental multi-disciplinary task forces and technical committees for UNIDO, UNESCO, and the World Bank.
He is the inventor of the first known instrument for in situ detection of steel cracking in sour petroleum production operations. This sophisticated device is used worldwide in oil industries. He holds patents in the USA, UK, Brazil. He has carried out many projects to solve corrosion and materials degradation problems in petrochemical, chemical processing, fertilizer, and steel manufacturing industries.
Prof Ashiru is a Non-Executive Director of FCMB Group Plc, CSL Securities and is currently the Group Managing Director/CEO of Tricontinental Group, a Nigerian conglomerate with interests in Oil & Gas services and industrial technologies He is happily married and blessed with children and grandchildren.
Dapo Oshinusi sits on the Board of MainOne, as a representative of Main Street Technologies Limited. He is the founder and Managing Director of Mansfield Energy, a leading provider of drilling and well completion solutions with sand control services for the oil and gas industry in West and South Africa. His experience spans managing the business of Schlumberger for more than 2 decades in different countries in the Middle East, West and South Africa and Europe.
Prior to setting up Mansfield Energy, a growing provider of oilfield services in West Africa, he was President of Reslink for Africa after he was Chairman of Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Lagos section. He is an executive member of the Petroleum Technology Association on Nigeria (PETAN), an association committed to the development of the Nigerian content with the transfer of technology to Nigerians in the oil and gas sector. Mr. Oshinusi sits on various management boards, such as Crystal Life assurance, where he is Chairman.
Otunba Abdulrahman Abiola-Odunowo, also known as AJ, is the son of popular Ogun socialite and prominent businesswoman, Alhaja Adebisi Edionsere, popularly known as cash madam, Otunba Odunowo serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of Private Networks Nigeria Limited. Otunba. Abiola-Odunowo has gained vast experience working for numerous small and medium-sized companies. His resourcefulness and undying appetite for self-actualization has endeared him to key players in the fast-developing Nigerian telecoms sector, as well as in other African countries. He is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School. He is a graduate of the prestigious University of Dundee in Scotland, where he earned an honours degree in Chemistry.
Yomi Badejo-Okunsanya is a consummate Public relations practitioner. Yomi is a History graduate of the University of Benin. He is the Group Managing Director of Re-Ignite Public Affairs. He started his career in marketing communications in 1988 with CT & A, a Lagos based advertising agency and became a Director in 1991. He has acquired extensive experience in the areas of Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations & Crisis Communications. He has worked on various accounts for both private and public sector clients including multinational companies. He was at the forefront of combating the Bellview Airline Crisis occasioned by Airline Crash at Lisa. He also provided crisis communications intervention strategy for Allied Energy, Muoka Foam and Sweet Sensation when their organizations faced internal crisis between 2004 and 2008.
He has handled various Corporate Communication activities for British American Tobacco Nigeria, Transcorp, Renaissance Group, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Peugeot Nig Ltd, Shell, Virgin Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and was a past Chairman of NIPR, Lagos State Chapter. He is currently the President of African Public Relations Association (APRA) and he is on the board of the International Public Relations Association.
Tunde Odulaja is another member of Ijebu Heritage Club. He is the chairman Board One Card Nigeria.
Prince Ade Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland Sony is also a member. Ade Osikoya, Otunba Segun Oshin, Engr. Yemi Idowu, Foluso Mustapha, Gbenga Sanni, Kayode Odukoya, Shola Adebayo, Femi Omotayo, Stanley Adeyemi and Architect Tunji Bolu are also prominent members of the club.
Mr. Ibidolapo Balogun, (BSc. ACII, FCIIN, mni) is a Civil Engineer and also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London. He was the pioneer Managing Director, Chief Executive of Equity Indemnity Insurance Company Limited and the Group Managing Director of Equity Assurance Plc. He has had over 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry. He is also the past chairman of Nigerian Insurance Association and an Alumnus of the National Institute of Policies and Strategic Studies, Kuru.
Ogun State former Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel is another prominet member of the club whose role since the inception of the club can not be ignored. Also the present Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun is a member of the club and this club is one of the clubs that remain as top priority among other clubs he belongs to.
Senator Mamora is a member. He was born on 16 February 1953. He obtained a B.Sc, Health Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) University of Ife, Ile-Ife and became a Health Practitioner. He was Medical Director of a Medical Centre (1987 – 1998), and a Company Medical Adviser (1988 – 1992).
Mamora was a National Delegate for the National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1990, and Secretary, Lagos East of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998. He was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1999 and was appointed Speaker. He was Chairman of the Conference of Speakers (2000 – 2001). Mamora was elected to the Senate in April 2003 and reelected in 2007.
Alaba Shonibare is the Chairman of Alaba Shonibare & Co and has developed the business into cross-border property development and holding company. Prior to his current position, he was Director of Projects of Shonny Investment Property Company Limited (SIPC), the landholding company of Shonibare Estate, and in that time he ensured that Shonibare Estate retained its position as a premier residence of choice in Lagos, Nigeria. Alaba has sat on several boards including the Chairmanship of Wemabod Estate (2003 – 2007), one of the biggest property development and holding companies in Nigeria. He has also been a Director and Governor of Grange School for over 35 years. As Chairman of the Governing Council, he oversaw the transformation of Grange School from a Primary School to a Junior Secondary School offering IGCSEs Cambridge Board of Education. In his capacity as Chairman of Alaba Shonibare & Co, he coordinates the development and management of all our offshore assets in the sub-Saharan Africa region, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Alaba is a qualified lawyer and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1978.
Otunba Ayo Osibogun started his career in 1989 with ELF Nigeria Limited as a marketing officer and in the process, due to his energetic commitment to oil and gas business, became the General Manager, Operations and Engineering in Oando, having managed the plants, depots, stations and all the engineering works all over the country for Oando, until in 2009 he stepped out to form his own company, “Carbon and Fuels Limited”.
Carbon and Fuels Limited is a niche company; Lubricant niche, Lubricant buyers. Having positioned itself to a particular area in the Oil Sector which most other companies are deficient in and in studying their own deficiency, has upgraded his own efficiency in the areas it considers capable to serve them.
The motivation behind this business deal came as a result of the experience being acquired by its founder and CEO, Otunba Ayo Osibogun who since 1991 had been into the lubricant business and having tested, blended and bought materials for it, exported and also imported it. His wide exposure into the business can be recounted. He was in charge of plants and terminals for Total Plc at Apapa, on joining Oando he transited to the post of General Manager, Operations and Engineering in charge of all Oando Terminals, depots and blending plants. This meant that he was operationally in charge of all the PMS, DPK, AGO, lubricants and other products being marketed by Oando.
Otunba Seyi Oduntan was a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East. At the Honey Well Group, Oduntan rose to become the General Manager and later the Managing Director of the conglomerate at a very young age of 35. After 14 years of meritorious service, he resigned from the Honeywell Group to form his own company, Lanrope Group of companies, a highly diversified group with interests in diesel and solar energy, international trade and finance.
Oduntan has served as Chairman or Director in various public and private institutions, including the Western Publishing Company, publishers of the Nigerian Compass Newspapers; Ogun State-owned Gateway Pharmaceuticals company Limited; Director, Citadel Savings and Loans Limited (where he was co-founder); Director, Forest City Limited (UK); Chairman, SG Services Limited, an Oil servicing Company with foreign affiliation for Project Management and Front end engineering; Chairman, Metrorail Limited; Monorail construction, Bridges and Stratt Consulting Limited, capacity builders, management consultants; ICT solutions providers, trainers and developers in collaboration with world-renowned consultants, among many others.
Prof. Taiwo Adetayo Osipitan, SAN and his lovely twin sister (Prof. Kehinde Ololade Olayinka of Department of Chemistry, University of Lagos) were born on 14th November 1956 to Chief Bayo Osipitan and Late Mrs. Modupe Olayinka Osipitan.
Prof. Osipitan attended Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo State for his Ordinary Level School Certificate and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State for his GCE Advanced Level Certificate. Between 1977-1980, he was an Undergraduate of the prestigious Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. After obtaining his LLB Degree(Hons), he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos for the mandatory practical training preparatory to his being called to the Nigerian Bar. He successfully completed his studies at the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in July, 1981 which entitled him to enroll and practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
During the BAR Finals Examination, he emerged as the Overall Best Student in Civil Procedure and this earned him the coveted Hon. Justice Somolu Memorial Prize for the Best Student in Civil Procedure. From September 1981 –September 1982, Prof. Osipitan was a Postgraduate Student of the London School of Economics and Political Science which was then one of the Colleges of the University of London. He successfully completed his LLM Degree Examination with Distinction.
The journey as an Academic began in December 1982 when Prof. Osipitan was posted to the Faculty of Law, the University of Lagos for his primary assignment as a Youth Corp Member. Thereafter, he was employed as Lecturer Grade II on 18th November 1983. He rose progressively to Lecturer grade I (1985) Senior Lecturer (1988), Associate Professor (1992) and Professor of Public Law in 1998.
He was, at different times, a Part-time Lecturer at the Lagos State University and the Ogun State University. He has also served and still serves as external examiner to some Universities. Professor Osipitan has served as the Editor-in-Chief of Monthly Judgment of Supreme Court of Nigeria since 2002. He has written many articles in peer-reviewed Journals and Chapters in scholarly Books.
In 2002, he was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, which is the highest recognition accorded Legal Practitioners who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession.
Oluwole B. Oshin, also known as Wole, B.Sc (Hons) MBA ACII FCIIN, founded Custodian and Allied Plc in 1994 and has been its Managing Director since 1994 and also serves as its Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Oshins’ insurance career began in 1984 when he worked for three (3) years in the Actuarial Sciences Department of the National Insurance Corporation (NICON), Nigeria’s largest Insurance Company. In 1987, he became Assistant Manager in the Executive Support ServicesDivision of Femi Johnson & Co., where Mr. Oshins was responsible for the entire insurance needs of big conglomerates with assets running into billions of Naira. In 1991, Mr. Oshin joined Marketing Department of Crusader Insurance (Nigeria) Plc as Head of Corporate Marketing, responsible for the marketing of it corporate clients. As a result of his performance and versatile background, he was transferred to head Crusader’s Investment Department where he was responsible for the management of its diversified portfolios. In addition, he is the Nigerian Ambassador to the prestigious International Insurance Society, New York and the Deputy Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association. He is a Director of Crusader Nigeria Plc. He serves as Director of Custodian and Allied Plc. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, U.K, as well as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. He is an Alumnus of Lagos Business School (LBS CEP-9). Mr. Oshin has a first degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos (1984) and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Ibadan (1990).
Otunba Abimbola Ashiru, the former Head of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Social Investment, Stanbic IBTC Bank is an urbane and nice man. despite this lies a brawn and sound intellect, which has taken him this far. Bimbo Ashiru’s took on a new twist 8 years ago when he was called upon by the former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun to assist Ogun State with his tested skill and experience by becoming the state’s Commissioner for commerce and industry.
