A few days ago, City People Magazine was in Ibadan and we visited a new hotel that everybody is talking about right now. Its called The Cushpartments, located inside the Iyaganku GRA area of Ibadan. That is where all the decision-makers, businessmen and the big players stay when they visit Ibadan these days.
City People Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE spoke to the visioner behind the brand. The hotel is part of The Southerncrush Hospitality and Leisure Services Limited, the licensed operates of The Cushpartments brands. Below are excerpts of the interview.
Congratulations on the opening of your new hotel in Ibadan. Tell us about it. What is the idea?
The Cushpartments is more than a hotel. It is a concept that was conceived to provide the much-desired missing link between Investment in hospitality services and getting the “ beyond the norm” value for such investment.
The Cushpartments is a 10 bedroom fully furnished serviced apartment in the Iyaganku Government Reserved Area of Ibadan, the state capital. The area enjoys a back to back 24-hour compact security services with enviable constant government electricity supplies.
Since evolvement, the Cushpartments has played host to prominent personalities in almost all fields of human and socio-economic endeavours. It is indeed a decent hospitality haven where you can “Relax, Refresh, Recreate and Return “ for more!
You were living in Lagos before you relocated to Ibadan. Why did you relocate?
We carefully did a close study of all the indices that make the city of Ibadan a sought after for Investors in Real estate, hospitality, tourism, transportation, real sector, Informal sector, and we realized that one common denominator has endeared almost everyone to this peaceful, brown roof ancient city of Oyo State. That denominator has chiefly been Social Capital, which is the teeming and ever consciously increasing population.! We run a Group of Companies with over 8 independent Subsidiary companies all with a common corporate focus of “ …Guaranteeing Wealth” to Shareholders, Customers and our WorkForce.
How do you see the business climate in Ibadan?
Known as the “pacesetter state”, Oyo is in southwest Nigeria and borders the states of Ogun, Osun and Kwara, as well as Benin. With an extensive interstate road network and the ability to capitalise on high volumes of cross-border activity, the state benefits from a strategic location, enabling companies to receive shipments from the ports of Lagos, reach markets in the country’s northern and eastern regions, or supply customers in Benin and beyond. Businesses in the state still face challenges posed by infrastructure bottlenecks, but new policies, developed in conjunction with federal programmes, are helping to incentivise investment by strengthening Oyo’s competitive advantages.
With its sprawling population, agricultural potential and commercial promise, Ibadan could rival Lagos as an economic hub. But there are many challenges to overcome.
Ibadan, the city of brown rusty roofs, was once the capital of Western Nigeria. It’s now the capital of Oyo State. It was the driving force of change in the entire region, churning out ideas, projects and people that transformed the region, the country and the continent.
According to many business people that have made it in Ibadan, understanding the city’s consumers and their preferences is crucial to doing well here. Ibadan residents, for instance, are said to seek out high quality at low prices.
