Nigeria will feature 20 junior para powerlifters in the World Senior Para Powerlifting championships in Lagos in January, an official of the Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation (NPPF) has said.
Ruel Ishaku, Vice-President of NPPF said the junior powerlifters would be selected from the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin.
“Having the young ones take part in the senior championships is only to expose and encourage them to work hard in doing their best as an athlete.
“Many of our current athletes will be retiring after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, so, we need to raise talents that will replace them when they leave the stage,’’ he said.
Ishaku, however, added that the federation was still fine-tuning preparations ahead of the event.
