Poland vs Nigeria, Super Eagles, Polish

The Super Eagles take on Poland in an International Friendly in Wroclaw on Friday night, with the hosts boasting a series of star names who can hurt the Super Eagles. Here are their five key dangermen.

Lukasz Piszczek: The full-back has been a main fixture for Borussia Dortmund since joining in 2010, playing key roles in BVB’s Bundesliga triumphs in 2011 and 2012. He recently signed a contract extension keeping him at Signal Iduna Park until 2020. The 59-time capped Pole has featured in three European Championships, and the Super Eagles will need to be conscious about his threat out wide and his experience.

Kamil Glik: The towering centre-back has played 90 minutes in all but one game in Ligue 1 this season. His solidity at the back has been pivotal for Monaco as they aim to consolidate second place in the league standings. Glik’s high concentration levels means he’ll be prepared to counter any threat posed by the Super Eagles attack.

Grzegorz Krychowiak: After failing to establish himself at Paris Saint-Germain, the 28-year old midfielder has settled down at West Bromwich Albion. Even though the Baggies find themselves in relegation trouble, his combative nature has shone through during a testing campaign. Krychowiak was a key figure in the Poland side that topped their group during the World Cup qualifiers and will be an ominous midfield foe for John Obi Mikel, Wilfred Ndidi et al.

Arkadiusz Milik: The forward was supposed to be Gonzalo Higuain’s replacement when the Argentine transferred from Napoli to Juventus in the summer of 2016. However, his time at the San Paolo has been blighted by consistent injuries. He returned to the Partenopei’s first team recently and has featured in their last three Serie A games. Milik being called up to Adam Nawalka’s squad is a chance for him to show that he’s still got something to contribute at this level, despite scoring just once in Serie A this term.

DRADAMS

Robert Lewandowski: The Polish skipper and all-time top scorer continues to fire on all cylinders having scored 32 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich this season. As one of the hottest strikers in the world, he will pose the biggest threat to the Super Eagles backline and they’ll need to work extra hard if they are to stop his attacking forays. Can the Nigeria defence find a way to cage the lethal hitman?
