Fulham caretaker boss, Scott Parker has revealed he’s received plenty of support since being named Fulham’s caretaker boss, including a message from the former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

“I don’t have many friends but yesterday my phone was pinging all the time!” said Parker.

“Sir Alex found the time to send a long, detailed message, giving me advice on how he sees things, which is truly inspirational.”

Fulham enter Sunday’s west London derby 19th in the Premier League, 10 points from safety with just one win from their last five league games.

Parker added: “The situation doesn’t lie. It’s a tough ask but I’m relishing the opportunity of testing ourselves against these big teams.

“We need to get a balance back. As a club, as fans, as players, as owners, we just need to regroup a little bit. If we do that well, results will be a by-product of that.

“I hope I can transmit my passion to the team, get my energy across. I know there’s more to football than passion and drive, but that’s a fundamental element.”

Parker says he has ‘mixed emotions’ after taking over as Fulham’s caretaker manager. Parker has been speaking to the media for the first time since taking over from Claudio Ranieri, who was sacked on Wednesday.

“It’s mixed emotions, what with sitting where we are in the league and Claudio losing his job,” said Parker.

“But the flip-side is one of excitement. I appreciate the opportunity and I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s definitely an audition. On a personal note this is something I started working towards seven years ago when I was a Spurs player.

“I’ve got an ambition to be a manager. My main focus at this moment in time is getting the team together, finding some stability.”
