For the curvaceous popular female Doctor, Anu Adepoju, it is no longer news that she has been sanctioned and banned indefinitely from medical practice. The doctor who came into the consciousness of many with her cosmetic surgery practice in the Lekki area of Lagos has since met her waterloo.
She was dismissed on the basis of allegedly performing Cosmetic Surgery when she is not qualified to do so. It has however been authoritatively confirmed that Dr. Anuoluwapo Olufunmi Adepoju popularly known as Dr Anu on Social Media has been suspended by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) indefinitely from the medical profession in Nigeria with effect from 5th November 2020.
Until her suspension, her clinic was one of the most sought after for cosmetic surgery when you can’t afford to travel abroad. She misled a lot of women who thought she was qualified for the job thereby risking their lives while many suffer from several illnesses but lost their lives in the cause.
Her suspension Order was issued by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel pursuant to powers conferred on it by s15(3)c of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap M8 LFN 2004. Dr Anuoluwapo is the owner and founder of the private hospital in Lekki Lagos called Medcontour Clinic – the clinic where she performs cosmetic surgeries on her clients. She ran into trouble when many of her patients started experiencing trouble.
She graduated from College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL) in 2017. By December 2018, she carried out a Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery procedure on a patient who later developed complications and went on to die from the complications. She was a House Officer (a young medical graduate in training) when she carried out the procedure.
It is noteworthy that cosmetic surgeries are a highly specialized procedures that should be carried out only by trained specialists (consultant plastic surgeons) according to Nigerian and international medical laws.
Dr Anu was said not to have even been fully registered with the medical and Dental Council of Nigeria since she did not complete her internship programme in Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and therefore was not signed out by the hospital management. How did her problems started? Yes, she is a medical doctor. However, she is believed not to have been fully registered by MDCN as she didn’t finish her housemanship program. She performed surgery as a house officer in her private hospital which later led to the death of a patient in 2018. The patient was a former beauty queen.She also set up a private hospital for highly specialised procedures even as an intern. This is against Nigeria’s constitution…A doctor can only open a private hospital 2 – 5 years post graduation according the MDCN.The latest problem that landed her in court and with the federal government is the botched/failed buttock enlargement surgery she performed on a controversial social media big girl called Omohtee Jesus baby. After the surgery, Omhotee claimed she lost sensation on her waist and she called out Dr Anu on her Instagram Page and Twitter handle for the poor surgery and complications she has developed.
In the heat of this controversy, Dr Anu allegedly performed a breast enlargement surgery on a client who later developed breast abscess complications. The patient was later rushed to LUTH when her breast started draining pus. Fortunately she recovered at LUTH.
In spite of the numerous calls for her arrest on social media, Dr Anu has remained defiant, saying only MBBS is required for cosmetic surgery.Her health facility, Medcontour has been shut down several times by the federal authorities over reports of alleged malpractices, complications and deaths.
According to Nimedhealth, Her suspension is till further notice. It is pending the determination of the case by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.The disciplinary tribunal is currently sitting on her case and investigating her alleged medical misconducts. Dr Anuoluwapo may lose her license if the disciplinary committee finds her guilty of medical practice and misconduct.
Now termed the wanted and runaway fake plastic surgeon, Anu has forfeited her career for gross misconduct and indiscipline as far as medical practice is concerned. Who is this Dr Anu? Dr Anu Fella also called Sisi Anu, is a medical doctor in her 30s that runs the now closed down Med Contour plastic surgery clinic in Lagos. She is NOT a certified plastic surgeon and has allegedly caused bodily trauma and even death to her patients who visit her clinic for body enhancement surgeries.
There are reports that Dr Anu graduated from UNILAG/LUTH in 2016/2017 and didn’t even finish the compulsory one-year internship programme thereafter before she set up a private hospital where she illegally carried out cosmetic surgeries like liposuction, butt and breast enlargement surgeries according to MDCN . In one of the numerous cases which got her into trouble, a family dragged Dr Anu last year for killing their sister. It was after then she shut down last year and ran after killing a beauty queen which was all over the news.
Dr Anu of Medcontour Clinic has always taken the controversy concerning her unauthorized plastic surgeries in her stride but this latest one has sent her running as the federal government is now interested in her case. After the patient called her out, Doctor Anu replied her via the Medcontour handle on instagram saying she was suffering from a mental illness called body dismorphic disorder (BDD).
Not sooner than later, Federal Consumer Protection Agency shuts down Medcontour Clinic, and declared Dr Anu wanted for medical malpractice…
The social media outrage and gory stories(from other victims) of Dr Anu’s illegal cosmetic surgeries in her clinic prompted the Chairman of consumer protection agency, Tunde Irekure, to swing into action and issue an arrest warrant for Dr Anu after finding her culpable of possible medical malpractices. Medcontour clinic is shutdown and Dr Anu is presently on the run.
After running away from law enforcement agencies, she was finally arrested and taken to Panti Police Station for questioning but was later released under controversial curcumstances probably because the complainants (including Omhotee) refused to press charges.
But just a month after her release, Dr Anu Fella re-opened Med Contour Clinic, released uncharitable statements on her social media handle, absolving herself of any wrongdoing, claimed victimization and blamed LUTH for killing her clients since in her own understanding, they failed to manage the patients who suffer complications of the cosmetic surgery she performs on them.
Within this short period, Doctor Anu performed a failed breast augmentation surgery on a client that got bad, got infected (draining foul smelling pus) and the patient now stood a risk of losing her two breasts. In a well circulated video that has gone viral, the patient cries out from her hospital bed at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). The lady claims she paid 1.65 million naira to Anu Fella for this failed breast enlargement and lift.
It was this incident that broke the camel’s back and Dr Anu was sanctioned indefinitely from medical practice and if found guilty at the disciplinary panel, she will go to jail.
