Kunle Adegbite is 40. He is the Country Manager of a company called Arabian Healthcare Group. It is a Dubai based hospital group that offers Medical Tourism in Nigeria. The Nigerian office was set up in 2012. “Basically we are in Nigeria to offer medical help, to take patients abroad for health cases that cannot be done in Nigeria. We take them abroad to get permanent solutions to the medical condition of these patients. That is what we call Medical Tourism”.
What will he call the predominant health challenges many Nigerians suffer? “They are cardiac issues, need for open heart surgery, knee replacements, joint replacement, laparascopic surgeries, we have what we call the Swiss Health Checks. Its a kind of preventive health package. We want to encourage people to go for check ups.
We have a check up package that we put together for people in Nigeria to go to Rak Hospital in Dubai to do it. We are trying to bring it also to Nigeria. We are planning to open a state of the art diagnostic centre in Nigeria. So for health cases involving Cardiology, Neurology, joint and knee replacements, we also have stroke management”.
How did Kunle Adegbie get involved in this medical service? “Its because I have a medical background”, he explained. “After schooling I worked briefly with Me Cure.
After that I joined Arabian Health Group in Dubai. After that, I was transferred back to Nigeria 4 years ago to develop medical tourism here in Nigeria.
I oversee the group’s business development in Africa. So, I do Ghana, Ethiopia, Zambia, Khartown and Addisa Ababa in terms of patient referrals to Rak Hospital in Dubai”.
How does he find the job? “The job is very interesting”, he explains. “It is quite demanding. I travel a lot. I like the job because it is a foundation for good healthcare in Nigeria. We are planning to have this facilities here in Nigeria. This would be achievable in the next couple of years”.
For those who suffer some of these health challenges, and need to seek your help how would they go about it? “We have partnerships with hospitals in Nigeria. By that I mean private hospitals, government hospitals, with doctors as well. We have partnerships with doctors as well. They refer their patients to us in cases that cannot be done here. When they introduce these patients to us we counsel them and get them their travel documents and from here we take them to Dubai for the final treatment. We also have the walk in patients. These are people who want to go to Dubai and get themselves checked up.
They are welcome as well. There are packages for everybody. Rak Hospital in Dubai is a good hospital. It is one of the pioneer hospitals with a JCI accreditation in the whole of the Middle East”.
What was Kunle Adegbite’s growing up years like? “I was born in Ibadan”, he explains. “I attended Government College, Ibadan. I later moved to University of Ilorin before I later moved to Dubai to do my Masters”, what course did he study in Ilorin?
“I studied Microbiology. And I did Public Health in Dubai. I am happily married. I have 2 kids. I have a beautiful wife who is into interior decoration. She is into party planning.”
