Over 2.7m children immunised in Niger – official

Over 2.7 million children were immunised in Niger State during its just concluded Immunisation Plus Week, the Executive Director of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Yahaya Na’uzo, has said.

Na’uzo, who made the disclosure during a press conference in commemoration of Africa Vaccination Week in Minna, the capital, said that although the state recorded a high rate of compliance during the programme, around 10, 000 children have yet to be immunised in Niger.

He said that the state Primary Health Care Development Agency was working towards reducing the rate of deaths among children below five years by making necessary vaccines available in all parts of the city.

Na’uzo urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children were regularly vaccinated so as to protect them against diseases.

In his address, the Niger State Immunisation Officer, Dr. Samuel Jiya, noted that vaccines remains one of the powerful tools for disease prevention.

While revealing that the state currently has over N72m worth of vaccines in storage, he disclosed that moves were being made to take immunisation to schools across the state.
