Nigeria’s 2017 budget will be ready for President Muhammadu Buhari to sign next week, the Senate has said.
The announcement was made by Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan on Thursday, April 27.
“By next week … we should be able to finish our own work and pass the budget to Mr. President to sign,” Lawan told journalists after a meeting with Buhari.
Lawan also said that the National Assembly had planned to pass the budget in March and April but couldn’t do so due to some delays.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje had warned of further delays in passing the budget after accusing the police of taking critical documents from his home.
Goje’s home was raided on April 20 due to information received from a whistleblower.
The police however denied taking the 2017 budget out of Goje’s home.
