…After Fall Out Of Presidential Primary Elections
As the All Progressive Congress, APC Primary gets intense, the loyalists and core supporters of Asiwaju, who are within the APC have remained unconcerned about the outcome of the Primary because there are other plans that have been devised long before what some Nigerians might have seen as a shocker.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, long before it became glaring, had known that he was never President Buhari’s first choice for the 2023 Presidential ticket, and he had made several plans ahead. Some other sources who confirmed this development added that the only request of Asiwaju from President Buhari is to ensure that the elections remain free and fair, just as the one that brought him to Aso Rock in 2015.
Last Friday, it was announced that the Oyegun-led committee had disqualified 10 candidates and the news went around that Tinubu did not make the list. As a test, of popularity, about 10 governors mobilised to warn the party executive that they will leave the APC and go in the direction of Asiwaju wherever he chose to go.
The big news coming from the APC reveals that there are plans for key members to exit the party and convey their teeming followers to align with 7 other big parties across all the 6 regions of the country.
A key member of the APC who is from the north has also said that the APC cabals will get the shock of their lives if they play any form of politics to deny Tinubu the ticket.
“We have made arrangements with no fewer than 7 major parties, who are ready to join forces together with us. Many of us will leave the APC and scatter ourselves among the parties to strengthen every area from the zones. “We will also deliberately leave some members to remain within the APC to play the inside role.
“They will not believe what is coming to them. We will show them that we understand this game more than them”, he said.
Further findings show that Asiwaju and his loyal team have made huge progress in this project, they have successfully broken into all the states and are in control of a sizable number of supporters across the 36 states. Every state is currently operating a different movement with no fewer than half a million members across the board.
Asiwaju was ready for any kind of Primary that the cabal may have planned. He was ready for direct. or indirect primary provided that the delegates are allowed to exercise their rights to vote.
Barely a week before the postponed date for primary, President Buhari met with the APC governors and dropped a bombshell.
Credible sources privy to a meeting held between the president and the governors said the president took most of the governors by surprise considering that they wanted him to allow them to choose one among them as the next president.
Some of the sources said the president was also bowing to pressure from some powerful forces around him who want to remain relevant in the next administration
One source privy to details of the meeting however said the president’s silence about who his choice was disappointed those who orchestrated the meeting who had envisaged the president’s clear endorsement.
“With his speech, the president took many stakeholders by surprise,” one of the sources said.
“Even though the president is keen on leaving behind a legacy of success stories at the end of his tenure in 2023 for the future generation to see, he was not particularly interested in circumventing democratic norms or having a direct influence on who succeeds him in order to cover any wrongdoing.
The governors of the APC were led into the meeting by Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, who is the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF).
“In keeping with the established internal policies of the party and as we approach the convention in a few days, therefore, I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023,” he said.
It was learnt that the governors later met at Adamu’s house at the Three Arms Zone where they continued with deliberations on the way forward in the aftermath of what the president said.
It is however interesting that the majority of those who are kicking against President Buhari’s demand are from the north.
An APC member who is also a northerner spoke with City People on the phone and maintained and said that, although President Buhari has a right to identify a worthy successor, he does not have a right to compel acceptance of his successor.
“Candidates should be selected through democratic primaries not based on the whims and caprice of one individual,” he said.
This means that President Buhari can only express his candidate of interest but cannot compel the party or other aspirants to fall in line.
He attested to the fact that the party may break if the APC Primary should go in a dictatorial manner that it seems to be taking at the moment.
