7 Pieces From Nigerian Artists To Add To Your Art Collection

by Daniji Emmanuel

With Ben Enwonwu’s 55-year old bronze sculpture selling for over N54 million just this week – breaking an auction record – and Nigeria currently making her debut at the prestigious Venice Biennale, we can all agree that Nigerian art is having its moment; and you can be a part of it.

Granted, from the outside looking in, collecting art might seem like the most intimidating pursuit, but trust us there’s actually a method to all that supposed madness – and what better place to start than right here?

The African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) is introducing a new event, Art Collector’s Club – an afternoon of discussions around acquiring and curating your own art collection. The first in the series opens on May 27.

The AAF will share their vast knowledge on the local and international art market, including building an evolving and quality collection – with the input of experts, artists and collectors alike.

The event will feature speakers like Femi Akinsanya and acclaimed photographer, Medina Dugger, as they share perspectives on their methodology and rationale for collecting contemporary art.

Here are 7 stunning pieces by Nigerian artists that will be on sale during the event – to help you launch your very own art collection:
