Will Ugwumba Uche Nwosu win the Imo governorship race tomorrow? That is the big question everybody is asking in Imo State. This is because this illustrious son of Umunwokwe, Eziama-Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State is one of the top contenders for the job. In August, Chief Uche Nwosu will be 44.
In June, 2011, Gov. Anayo Rochas Okorocha (OON), the Governor of Imo State made him his Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations). Later, in recognition of his hard work, diligence and sense of responsibility, the Governor in April, 2012 found him worthy to be appointed a Commissioner. He was to shoulder the responsibility of overseeing the challenging Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Urban Development.

As the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban planning, Nwosu performed creditably well and brought numerous innovations to the ministry, top of which were the re-certification and digitalization of certificate of occupancy (C of O); the opening of numerous layouts in the state, the creation of the Imo Lands among others. As a result of his outstanding performance Ugwumba Uche Nwosu won the many awards including The Best Commissioner in urban development in Nigeria in 2014.
Okorocha again recognised his professional competence, managerial dexterity and calm disposition and re-assigned him to the desk of the Chief of staff, Administration), Imo State Government House, which made him to serve in dual capacity as a commissioner and deputy chief of staff, which he held until Imo Executive council was dissolved in 2015.
As a result of his outstanding performances noted above, even while performing a dual-capacity functions, Okorocha considered him a suitable candidate and appointed him his Chief of Staff on June 2015. As the Chief of Staff, Imo State Government House, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu brought tremendous transformation to the office, making it a lodestar that boosted level of performance.
Politically, he started off as a member of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC). During the run up to the 2015 general elections, he won the gubernatorial ticket of the party in Imo State, but in a move which has been termed unprecedented, he relinquished his ticket to his boss, Owelle Rochas Okorocha. In Imo State, he is well known as a top advocate of youths and students. To this group of people, he is a mentor, motivator as well as a role model. His numerous contributions towards rightly positioning of youths and students of Imo State is well known to the general public and has not gone unheralded.
