Anambra Former Chief Judge Joins APGA 19 Days After Retirement

by Damilare Salami
JUSTICE UMEADI, Anambra CJ,

A former chief judge of Anambra state, Peter Umeadi, on Wednesday joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in his Nri ward two in Anaocha area of the state.

Umeadi retired as a chief judge on March 1, 2019, and was recently announced a law professor by the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

He said his decision to join partisan politics was to keep his brain active, adding that any person who retired and goes to sleep will end up inactive.

“If you are on retirement and you go to sleep, your brain will equally go to sleep. It’s desirable that if you are on retirement you find something doing so that your life will be prolonged through the service you render to people,” he said.

“So, I have come to my ward today to associate with my people and identify with my ward.

“Any lawful instructions my ward chairman gives me that I shall do. I have come to try my political venture. I call it venture because politics is not a do-or-die affair; politics can be more sporting than that.

“Our governor has done well in changing the fortunes of the state in his five years in office. We must come together and team up with him at any capacity he would want us to serve to ensure further good governance to the people and to our dear state. I have thought it wise to join APGA. This will enable me to identify myself to a cause.”

The ex-CJ also said the time has come for an Igbo man to be given the opportunity to lead Nigeria.

“It is only when an Igbo man is allowed to be in charge of Nigeria for eight years that things will get better,” he said.

“Igbos have the highest investment in Nigeria, and Nigerians must support them in their presidential bid in 2023 if things must move well.”

S. A. Egolum, APGA Chairman, Nri ward 2 expressed delight that the legal luminary had joined politics and assured him that he would have all rights and privileges for members in the party.
