A man who was accused of raping a mentally-disabled teenager has been attacked and set on fire by a mob in Limpopo, South Africa.
Police discovered the remains of the 39-year-old man in Muhovhoya Village in Limpopo after they were called.
The local community had accused him of sexually assaulting the girl, 17, while she was collecting firewood, reports Daily Mail.
A spokesman for the police, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said that the teenager was the company with other women when the attack occurred.
He said, “The other women managed to run away, leaving the teenage girl behind. And that’s when the deceased allegedly raped her.’
When the community heard of the alleged rape, they were said to have met to ‘discuss the matter.”
On Monday, they tracked down the man and attacked him with objects before setting him on fire, said the authorities.
Police have now opened a murder case and are appealing for any information about who was involved in the man’s death.
So far, no arrests have been made.
