A Nigerian singer, Davido, has joined the ranks of celebrities registering their condolences following the death of Abba Kyari, President Mohammadu Buhari’s chief of staff, due to COVID-19.

Kyari had died from complications of the disease on Friday, about two weeks after he had gone into isolation after testing positive for the novel virus following an official trip to Germany.

Taking to a Twitter page, the Afropop singer, who is the CEO of the DMW records, bade the chief of staff farewell saying: “Rest in Peace, Abba Kyari” as fans took to the comment box in reaction.

Don Jazzy, a record producer, had similarly consoled all those who have lost someone to the pandemic, adding that the fight against the virus’ spread would now demand harmony.

His comment had come after Jaywon, a songwriter, had chided citizens who appeared to be gloating over the chief of staff’s death in a flurry of unsympathetic social media comments.

Before his passing, Kyari had strongly reassured Nigerians he was feeling well but that would move to Lagos where he had already made his own arrangements as regards medical care.

Newsmen earlier reported that he didn’t self-isolate after his foreign trips because Germany and the UK were yet to be designated as high-risk countries requiring self-isolation at the time.
