Until her death, Mrs Tessy Yembra was one of the famous dancers. She was known for her dancing prowess during the reign of the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s Fuji Garbage album in 1985 and Sir Shina Peters’ Ijo Shina back in the days.

Princess Tessy Yembra, was sick for about a year before she breathed her last a few days ago. Though, our source who doesn’t want her name mentioned revealed that Princess Yembra had been battling strange illness for years and had even survived stroke 2 years ago.

A Journalist, Dan Asabe, who is the brain behind AsabeTV on YouTube, also had an interview with Mrs Yembra last year, where she explained that she had been battling with BP and had to slow down when her doctor told her that she was a walking corpse. According to her, “I wasn’t feeling too well that day, so I decided to go to my doctor. On getting there, he checked my BP and said it was too high and it could lead to sudden death. This is one of the reasons you hardly see me at social functions again. I was told to take it cool. Don’t also forget that I fought a strange illness in the form of a stroke last year, but I am better now, “ she explained.

Princess Yembra also spoke about her humble beginning in Lagos. “ I grew up in Lagos. My father and mother were based in Lagos. I grew up in “Mayon Barracks in Lagos. Though I am from Delta State, Warri to be precise. I was born in Yaba. My father was one of the soldiers during World War II. My father was staying at the popular “Agbole Abu”. Though, I was very young then till they took me to Barracks where I grew up. I grew up in Lagos, but I am an Orobo/Ishekiri Babe,”  she revealed.

Yembra, speaking on her many regrets in life, explained that one of her major regrets was her 2-failed marriages. She said that she was pregnant for Tayo Okupe, her first love, who put her in the family way and went abroad to study. Her words: “Though Tayo Okupe and I loved each other so much, but I couldn’t stop him going abroad to further his education. So, I was living with his mum. But after he went abroad, the lyrics changed and he met another lady he got married to. I have a son for him, whose name is Henry Okupe. Tayo Okupe is from Remo, Ogun State, and he is a member of Agbomabiwon family. He broke my heart, but I have a son, who is making me proud. He stays in Atlanta. I left his mum’s place and lived as a single mum for many years before I tried another relationship which is Segun Beckley. I had Mosun and another baby who died at birth. I had to leave him when things didn’t go according to plan. I laugh when people think that I don’t want to get married. People don’t know what I have been through”, she revealed.

Not many know that Princess Yembra gave her life to Christ before she gave up the ghost. She explained that her first close shave with death after her first spiritual attack made her give her life to Christ. “ I have given my life to Christ. I am a member of Cherubim & Seraphim. I am also a member of Apostle Salakos Church. I also attend the Lord is Good Church”. She said.

One of the many regrets of Princess Yembra is not just her 2-failed marriages, she couldn’t become an air hostess she wanted to become before given birth to her first child, but she had since found solace in the fact that Henry Okupe in Atlanta is making her proud.

The late Princess Yembra unfulfilled dream is that she couldn’t get to celebrate her 60th birthday as she wished. This was because she was seriously hit by a strange illness. She also couldn’t celebrate her 30 years on stage, owing to the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who was the major financier of the project. She also revealed in many interviews she granted that Senator Adeleke was never tired of supporting her.

City People, speaking with her daughter last week on the death of her mum, she explained that her mum had been sick for a while until she breathed her last. She said she was buried immediately, but there would be a special prayer for her on Wednesday (8th day of her death) and 41 days of her death which is next month.

She said the prayer would be held at her Jibowu’s residence.

Princess Yembra ran a wine shop at Jibowu and many of her friends supported her by buying wine from her for their Owambe before her death. Though, not rich, one could see that she was contented and that she was a lover of Christ. She was also one of the closest aides to the late Iyalode Adunni Bankole before she died many years ago. Many testified that she missed the great Iyalode Adunni Bankole so much that she never stopped talking about her every day till her death.
