It is no longer news that Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde & former Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose don’t see eye to eye. For some time now Fayose has been criticising Makinde over what he calls the control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South-West.

Speaking recently when he led the national delegates of PDP, including the chairmen of the party in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos states to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Fayose warned Makinde against tampering with the leadership of the party in the region.

Fayose noted that despite the governor being the Zonal leader of the party, he will fight anyone that wants to take over the structure of the party in Ekiti State from him. The former governor asked Makinde to allow every state to be governed by its local leaders, adding that the Oyo State Governor has no right to interfere in the local politics being played in each South-West state.

He said, “There has been a reasonable cold war of who and who becomes the executive of the zone. Governor Makinde has demanded that the zonal executive be sacked and a caretaker be fostered on the zone which the party did. “But since the caretaker committee came into being, he has not allowed them to function because he produced the chairman. “Beyond that, the fact that there is a sitting governor does not say I should go to another man’s state. Nobody should come to my state; if you come to my state, I will face you squarely. “I will continue to respect him because he is my brother; I love him so much and I was part of his emergence.”

Seyi Makinde also replied Fayose. He also recently warned Fayose, to stop distracting him. As Fayose walked towards the podium at the PDP campaign ground in Ondo, recently, suspected hoodlums charged towards him and removed his cap.

DRADAMS

The former governor alleged that the attack was sponsored by Makinde and “a former deputy national chairman of the PDP”. But in a statement, Taiwo Adisa, Makinde’s media aide, said Fayose appears to be “perpetually desirous of hugging the limelight even when the occasion doesn’t desire such grandstanding”. “I believe that ex-Governor Fayose and his handlers need to look far away from Oyo State in search of their enemies,” he said.

“Governor Makinde has no link whatsoever with the incident Fayose’s aide was talking about.

“We expect all right-thinking members of the PDP to join the Governor of Oyo State in the prosecution of the noble and democratic assignment he is executing on behalf of the PDP in Ondo State at this time, instead of seeking to distract him one way or the other. “The governor will, however, not be distracted either on the task at hand or on the well-intentioned desire to join other leaders to rebuild the PDP in the South-West geopolitical zone.”

In all of this, Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose also joined the fray. In a viral video that recently made the rounds, Isaac Fayose tackled Oyo State Governor, Makinde. According to the former, Makinde’s predisposition for betrayal and disloyalty will soon see him out of the gubernatorial office. In it Isaac Fayose narrated how it was he who brought Makinde to his older brother, Ayo Fayose, and helped Makinde win the blessing of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Alhaji Rasheed Ladoja.

Isaac Fayose further related how he personally sponsored Makinde’s gubernatorial election, securing him over 50,000 deciding votes from Ibadan South West LGA of Oyo State. And how does Governor Makinde render gratitude, asks Isaac Fayose, but to send his ‘e-rats’ sniffing after his finances, even accusing him of looting state funds!

While the whole diatribe was conducted in the Yoruba language, Isaac Fayose’s angst cannot be mistaken for joy or celebration; neither can his pledge that Makinde will not be governor of Oyo State a second term—which is a weighty declaration from someone who can grant 50,000 votes.

In response to Isaac Fayose’s humble submission, many were quick to point out that he is still a side act and attraction, with the main actors in the ring being his older brother, Ayo Fayose, and Makinde.
