The Ogun state Governor’s office witness huge turnout of peaceful protesters with different placards who thronged from the ancient city of Makun. The protesters occupied all the spaces within the State Secretariat at Oke-Mosan on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in Abeokuta.
The protesters which comprises of the elderly and the youths came in buses moved from Sagamu to the state capital in their bid to bring their grievance with land grabbers who are believed to be working for Oba Adewale Adeniji, the Oniranike of Iranike in Offin.
The protesters, lead by Comrade Jamiu Olododo, matched through the Arcade within the Governor’s Office, while the mammoth crowd where chanting in clamor against Oniranike of iranike’s continued harassment and oppression, using land grabbers purportedly brought in from different parts of Lagos, Ikorodu, Sango and other area, and forcefully taking possessions of their ancenstral land, villages and homes from them.
While the protest gained momentum, the Honourable Commissioner for Chieftaincy affair, Hon. Afolabi Afuape,in company of Director of land bureau and one other Director attended to the Protesters on behalf of the governor and called for peace.
Comrade Jamiu told the Governor’s delegate, that they have been on the issue of the miscreants and land grabbers who were mobilised and sponsored to intimidate and attack the people of Makun by the accused Oniranike and that many Makun sons and daughters have been maimed, killed, as women have also been raped and all the aged in the villages driven away from their lands forcefully.
He said they have protested to Akarigbo’s palace twice, the last one being in March, 2021 while the Akarigbo was having a meeting with the other Obas in council. He pointed that while all kings led by Akarigbo himself and came to pacify the aggrieved crowd, Oniranike hid in the meeting room and refused to come out.
They added that the purported judgement which Oba Adewale Adeniji is claiming and presenting is a calculated backdoor judgement which undermines the credibility of the law.
They said they have come to notify His Excellency, and requesting the Governor to restrain Oniranike from further sales of their ancestral land, and that all landgrabbers who have invated the community should be ordered to vacate the lands.
Comrade Jamiu added that Police have visited from Abuja to apprehend some of the traducers who have been intimidating the Makun village, with their arms and ammunitions, and were taken to Abuja, but no information about them has been revealed in the last two weeks, The comrade demanded that the apprehended thugs be brought to book.
In his response, the Hon. Commissioner promise to get in touch with Akarigbo on the matter and also Oniranike to hear from him and ask him to present evidences that the land in contention belong to him. He appeal for restraints. He also promised to inform His Excellency of the protest.
With all steps taken by the Makuns, it is believed that His Excellency will act swiftly for peace to reign
