The remains of Lagos Socialite, Otunba Olajide Oshunnubi, was laid to eternal rest on Friday, July 2, 2021, at his residence in Òkè Sopen in Ìjebú Igbo, Ogun State. The burial service was quite eventful. The 3 days long programme was held in Lagos and his hometown in Ogun State between 30th June and 2nd July 2021. The burial event started in Lagos with Service of Songs and Commendation Services in honour of Otunba Oshunnubi, at the All Saints Anglican Church, Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos on 30th June and 1st July respectively. This was followed by the conveyance of the late icon’s body home for Wake-Keep, at his residence in Òkè Sopen in Ìjebú Igbo on 1st July. Commendation Service in his hometown was held at the All Saints Anglican Church, Òru-Ìjebú, Funeral Service at St. Luke Anglican Church, Òru-Ìjebú, while he was finally laid to rest at his residence in Ìjebú Igbo.
Otunba Oshunnubi, fondly called Sokoyokoto among his friends died in Lagos on June 7th, 2021 at the age of 81. He survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren, brother, sister and other beloved extended family members.
The reception of guests was a grand one as top shots and the who is who in the society were in attendance to pay last respect to the departed and to celebrate with the family of the deceased for a life well spent. Worthy of note among these individuals are The Oloru of Òru-Ìjebú, Oba Abdurasaq Olufemi Adebayo; Chief Mike Inegbese, The Atunwase of Lagos; veteran broadcaster, Bisi Olatilo; Apostle Dave Salako; Chief Obasa; Nollywood Icon, Dele Odule, among other hosts of dignitaries. The presence of some traditional rulers in Ìjebú land didn’t go unnoticed as their staff of authority were physically present. These include staff of Ebumawe, Oba Limeri, Ajalaye, Elese, Oloru, Elebumo, Tamarin, and others. Entertaining the esteemed guests was the music sensation, Tolu Obey, the son of ace musician, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. His classic performance lights up the reception as the children of the deceased came out to dance while their friends and associates approached the stage to celebrate with them.
As a way of celebrating a life well spent, the entire members of the All Saints Anglican Church in Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos on Wednesday 30th June 2021 held a service of Songs for the late Icon and illustrious member of the church, Otunba Olajide Remilekun Oshunnubi.
Otunba Oshunnubi who died on June 7th, 2021 was a father figure in the church. He was the patron of the noble and vibrant group, Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) of the church.
The octogenarian was highly influential and meant a lot to those around him. This was evident as the church was full to the brim. Family, church members, friends, neighbours and associates came out in their large numbers to honour the deceased.
The service was laced with collections of highly spiritual hymns of the Anglican Communion which brought a calm and angelic atmosphere within the church premises. It was as if the angels descended from the heavens to join the Service.
The son of the deceased, a family member, a church representative, as well as a neighbour, were called upon as they testified to the impeccable character of Otunba Oshunnubi which they say is worthy of emulation. They acknowledged how impactful coming in contact with the late icon has been to them. They however prayed that he rests in the blossom of the Lord as they would always remember him for the goodness he has done.
This was followed by a brief sermon as admonition for the living after which prayers were said by Venerable Israel Omotunde Owoyele, Ven. Gbenga Fagbemi and Revd. Olajide Onanuga respectively.
