It’s been a very difficult time for these legends in the movie industry. They dominated the movie scene in the 80s and 90s and even made growing up very lively for lots of youths in society today. Some of these highly talented stars are currently down with one ailment or the other.
Though some of them have come out to talk about what they are going through and even ask for financial assistance, others have decided to be quiet about it and take care of themselves personally with help from family members.
Pretty movie actress, Kemi Afolabi was recently diagnosed with an incurable sickness named lupus, which has affected her work, and relationships and has ultimately changed her life forever.
A sickness that has eaten deep into her finance as she spends millions on drugs to manage the incurable sickness.
Just a few days ago, her close friends and colleagues in the industry, Yomi Fabiyi, Mercy Aigbe, Sola Kosoko, and Akin Olaiya shared a video, where they were soliciting financial assistance from fans, so she can be flown abroad for better medical attention.
A highly respected actor, John Okafor a.k.a. Mr Ibu a few days ago shared a video from his hospital bed where he disclosed, that he is not begging for financial assistance from anybody.
He earlier disclosed that he got poisoned for the third time in about three years. According to him “I was poisoned in Abuja last week at an entertainment event. I really cannot explain how I was poisoned because it was a gathering of people, though it was not a big event”.
In the video he made from his hospital bed, he looked and sounded very weak, though he said he was recuperating.
Fabian Adibe a highly respected actor who dominated the movie scene for nearly four decades, recently revealed why he quit acting 12 years ago. He began acting in 1987 in the acclaimed Nigerian Television series “Thing Fall Apart”.
In 2016, it was rumoured that the actor had a visual impairment and disclosed he needed 13 million for eye surgery.
The actor is presently suffering from partial blindness caused by a long battle with glaucoma.
Clem Ohameze, a veteran actor who is known for his many roles in Nollywood movies has been confined to a sickbed for years. The actor was involved in an accident, which had damaged his lower and upper limbs pushing him to take to the internet in search of financial assistance. Though Prophet Jeremiah has reached out to him and gifted 8 million for surgery and an extra 1.5 million for use after surgery to ensure that he recovers fully.
Actor Ifeanyi Ezeokeke a.k.a. “Ugo Save Me” was famous in the ’90s, he was shot into the limelight after his role in a conspiracy.
The actor is down with a strange illness and he is a shadow of himself. This is also the reason highly talented actor is scarce from the movie scene.
Henry Onyeka, a young and very talented actor was shot at a military checkpoint in Jos and the bullet hit his spinal cords.
In 2017, ill-luck caught up with him and he has been battling for his life till now. Ever since the soldier shot at him, the bullet shattered his dreams in the movie industry.
Popular veteran Yoruba actor, Prince Adewale Adeyemo better known as Baba Igbomina a few months ago cried out for help from Nigerians as he has found it difficult to feed and buy his drugs after surviving his terrible illness which ate up all of his finances. After returning from the hospital and spending over 3 months completely incapacitated.
It went viral 2 years ago, that he was down with lungs, liver and kidney problems. Some good samaritans home and abroad donated money to his cause for him to have surgery done and fix his liver, kidney and lungs issues.
Veteran actress, Iyabo Oko was diagnosed with a right ischemia stroke some years back. The first health scare happened some years ago but she didn’t want anyone to know about it. Her children flew her to China for better medical treatment and she got better but her condition got bad again.
Just this year, confusion trailed her health status, she was pronounced dead and came back alive three hours after.
Movie legend Olu Jacobs is among the stars with health challenges. His pretty wife Joke Silva has publicly spoken about the state of her husband, Olu Jacob’s health. According to her “this has been going on for a couple of years, my husband is dealing with issues and it is been going on for a couple of years. It is known as dementia with lewy body. It is a degenerative disease that affects the brain and it is almost like a Parkinson’s type of disease. It affects the brain and affects the person”.
It was reported that veteran Nollywood actor, Tunde Alabi lost a foot to diabetes a few years ago, and this brought an end to his very flourishing movie career.
Tunde Alabi was one of the regular characters in the now rested TV series “Village Headmaster”.
Veteran actor cum filmmaker, Chief Emeka Ani’s health degenerated in 2020 as a wound, which developed in his buttocks was operated on in Owerri. He has been battling a special type of diabetes which kept getting worse on daily basis.
He also disclosed in a video he shared last year that he was close to going blind as cataracts had already developed in one of his eyes, and also that the worsening health challenge had developed into a partial stroke. After this Pastor, Jeremiah gave him 7 million for his treatment.
Micheal Duru, a veteran actor has been suffering from diabetes and had his leg amputated. He is popular for acting tough roles in the early 2000s before retiring due to ailment. He also recently received a cash gift from a pastor for his treatment.
Veteran actor, Ojo Arowosafe a.k.a. Fadeyi Oloro cried out in December last year for financial assistance for his ailing health. According to him, he has conducted a series of tests to ascertain the nature of his ailment to no avail and has also sold all his properties while moving from one hospital to another in search of a solution.
He became a household name after he starred in the 1986 television drama “Arelu”. He also added that he can not walk properly and is experiencing excruciating pains in his body and pleaded for financial assistance from Nigerians.
