•As Awujale Gives Royal Recognition To New Age Grade Groups
Every year, the Ijebu people celebrate the annual Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode. It usually comes on the 3rd day after (Eidel-Kabir) Ileya. This is the day when various age-grade groups in Ijebuland popularly called Regberegbes pay homage to the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. But since 2019 the annual festival has not been held because of COVID-19. It didn’t hold in 2020 and 2021.
It was Oba Adetona, who re-established and resuscitated the age-grade groups into the widely acceptable phenomenon that it is today among the Ijebu and it has become an invaluable and integral part of the annual Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebuland. The age-grade groups were established for the purposes of bringing development and progress to the community. There are about 50 age-grade groups now with an average of, at least, 50 members per group.
Below is the list the various Regberegbes and their Giwas and Iyalode of the various groups who are preparing for this year’s Ojude Oba.
(1) EGBE MAFOWOKU (OKUNRIN)
This group is made up of very prominent Ijebu men born between 1st January, 1932 and 31st December, 1934. The Giwa Leader for many years was late Oba Shafi Sule, the Olu of Odonselu, while His Majesty, Oba S.K. Adetona (CFR) who is a member of Egbe Mafowoku has always been the Grand Patron.
(2) EGBE OLUGBADEBO (OKUNRIN)
This group is made up of those prominent Ijebu men born between 1st January, 1935 and 31st December, 1937. It received royal blessing on 21st May 1990. Giwa Egbe is Alhaji M.A. Odutayo. He is the President of Regberegbe Council.
(3) EGBE OLUGBADEBO OBINRIN (ELITE)
This group comprises those born between 1st January, 1935 and December 31st, 1937. Received Royal blessing on 19th March, 1994. The Iyalode is Badejoko Onabanjo,
(4) EGBE BOBAYO (OKUNRIN)
This group includes all those born between 1st January, 1938 and 31st December, 1940. It received royal blessing on 15th January 1989. Giwa Egbe is Engr. Bosun Oke
(5) EGBE BOBAYO (OBINRIN)
This age-grade group comprises those born on January 1st, 1938 to December 31st, 1940. Iyalode is Alhaja Tamiudapo Owodunni
(6)EGBE BOBAGBUYI (OKUNRIN)
Comprises those born between 1st January, 1941 and 31st December 1943, Royal recognitiion was given on July 4, 1990. The Giwa is Chief (Engr) M.A Oreagba.
(7) EGBE BOBAGBUYI (OBINRIN)
It consists of those born between 1st January, 1941 and 31st December, 1943. The Egbe received royal recognition on the 19th November, 1995. The Iyalode Egbe is Alhaja Bukky Ogun.
(8) EGBE OBALEKE (OKUNRIN)
It comprises those born between January Ist 1944 and December 31st 1946. It received royal recognition on 22nd February, 1991. Giwa Egbe is Alhaji Opeoluwa Surakatu.
(9) EGBE OBALEKE (OBINRIN)
Members were born between 1st January, 1944 and December 31st, 1946. It received royal recognition on the 25th October, 1991. Iyalode Egbe is Otunba Iyabo Omotayo Odunmolorun.
(10) EGBE BOBAJOLU (OKUNRIN)
It consists of those born between 1st January, 1947 and 31st December 1949. The Egbe received royal blessing on 4th April, 1992. Giwa Egbe is Engr. Wale Alli-Oke.
(11) EGBE BOBAJOLU OBINRIN (ORIGINAL)
It comprises those born between Ist January, 1947 and 31st December, 1949. Received royal recognition on 23rd January, 1994. Iyalode Egbe is Princess Oyinade Adekoya .
(12) EGBE BOBAJOLU OBINRIN (Basiri)
It comprises those born between January 1st, 1947 and December 31st 1949. It received royal blessing on 14th March, 1998. Iyalode Egbe is Alhaja Yemi Balogun.
(13) EGBE OBAFUWAJI (OKUNRIN)
Members were born between January 1st, 1950 and December 31st, 1952. It received royal blessing on 5th January, 1997. Giwa Egbe is Otunba Supo Mosuro.
(14) EGBE OBAFUWAJI OBINRIN (THE GREAT)
Members include those born between 1st January, 1950 and 31st December, 1952. It received royal blessing on 3rd March, 1996. lyalode Egbe is Alhaja Busurat Ogunneye.
(15) EGBE OBAFUWAJI OBINRIN (ADEDOYIN)
It consists of those born between January 1st, 1950 and December 31st, 1952. lyalode Egbe is Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ayanbadejo.
(16) EGBE BOBAGBIMO
OKUNRIN (AKILE)
It comprises those born between 1st January, 1953 and 31st December, 1955. It received royal blessing on 20th November, 1999. Giwa Egbe is Otunba Deji Osibogun.
(17) EGBE BOBAGBIMO OKUNRIN (ASIWAJU)
It is made up of those born between 1953 and 1955. The Giwa is Otunba Ogungbo Kolawole.
(18) EGBE BOBAGBIMO (OBINRIN)
Members were born between 1st January, 1953 and 31st December, 1955. Iyalode is Wasilat Kike Odutayo.
(19) EGBE BOBAKEYE (OKUNRIN)
It is made up of those born between 1st January 1956 and 31st December 1958. It received royal blessing on 14th April, 1996. Giwa Egbe is Otunba Biodun Onanuga.
(20) EGBE BOBAKEYE OBINRIN (SUKURATU)
It comprises those born between 1st January, 1956 and 31st December, 1958. It received royal blessing on 13th October 1996. The Iyalode is Mathilda Lara Oduekun.
(21) EGBE BOBAKEYEOBINRIN (DOUBLE T.)
It comprises those born between 1st January 1956 and 31st December 1958. It received royal recognition on 27th October, 1996. Iyalode Egbe is Mrs. Toyin Oluwole.
(22)EGBE BOBAGUNTE (OKUNRIN)
Members were born between 1st January 1959 and 31st December 1961. It received royal blessing on 28th March 1998. Giwa Egbe is Otunba Adesanya Yusuf.
(23) EGBE BOBAGUNTE (OBINRIN)
It is made up of women born between I5th January, 1959 and 31st December, 1961. It received royal recognition on 20th September, 1997. Iyalode Egbe is Alhaja Korede Alatishe.
(24)EGBE BOBAGUNTE OKUNRIN (ASIWAJU)
It is made up of those born between 1959 and 1961. It is run by Giwa Niyi Osoba.
(25) EGBE BOBAGUNTE OBINRIN (GOLD)
Iyalode Toyin Aberuagba is the President of this group of women born between 1959 and 1961.
(26) EGBE BOBAGUNTE OBINRIN (OLU-IWA)
The Iyalode is Abiola Okunowo-Akande.
(27) EGBE GBOBANIYI OKUNRIN (ASIWAJU)
It comprises of those born between 1st January, 1962 and 31st December 1964. Received royal blessing on 12th March 2000. Giwa Egbe is Otunba Niyi Mufutau Oseni.
(28) EGBE GBOBANIYI OKUNRIN (AKILE)
It is made up of those born between 1st January, 1962 and 31st December 1964. Received royal blessing on 12th September, 1998. Giwa Egbe is Otunba Tunde Ashiru Balogun.
(29) EGBE GBOBANIYI OBINRIN (ASIWAJU)
It comprises all those born between 1st January, 1962 and 31st December, 1964. Received royal recognition on 8th August, 1998. Iyalode Egbe is Princess Adebukanla Osibanjo.
(30) EGBE GBOBANIYI OBINRIN (OLORI)
It comprises those born between 1st January, 1962 and 31st December 1964. Received royal recognition on 11th March, 2000. Iyalode Egbe is Alhaja Kudi Shote. The Baba Egbe is Alhaji Ademola Sukuratu and Iyalode is Yemisi Fasawe.
(31) EGBE JAGUNMOLU OBINRIN (ORIGINAL)
Members were those born between 1st January 1965 and 31st December, 1967. It received royal blessing on 12th November 1999. Iyalode Egbe is Alhaja Risikatu Akinsanya.
(32) EGBE JAGUNMOLU (OBINRIN T2)
They include those born between 1st January 1965 and 31st December 1967. Received royal blessing on 4th March 2000. The Iyalode Egbe is Alhaja Toyin Sanni. (Stainless)
(33) EGBE JAGUNMOLU OKUNRIN (FEHINTADE)
This is made up of those born between 1968-1970. The Giwa is Giwa Adewale Abdul.
(34) EGBE JAGUNMOLU (OKUNRIN (AKILE)
It is headed by Giwa Kayode Abdul.
(35) EGBE JAGUNMOLU OKUNRIN (ASIWAJU)
This group of men aged between 1965 and 1967 is headed by Giwa Fatai Salami.
(36) EGBE AROBAYO OKUNRIN (AKILE)
This group is made up of those born between 1968 and 1970. It is headed by Giwa Dare Muritala.
(37) EGBE AROBAYO OBINRIN (AKILE)
This age grade group of those born in 1968, 1969 and 1970 is headed by Iyalode Taiwo Odumosu.
(38) EGBE AROBAYO OKUNRIN (ASIWAJU)
This same age grade of 1968 to 1970 is headed by Giwa Hammed Elerunwon.
(39) EGBE TOBALASE OKUNRIN (AKILE)
This is made up of those born between 1971-1973. The head is Giwa Abiola Azeez Alausa.
(40) EGBE TOBALASE OBINRIN (OBALOFIN)
It is the same Egbe of those born between 1968 to 1970. Iya Egbe is Ayinba Yemisi Fasawe. The Iyalode of the Egbe is Folashade Kasali. The group consists of Ijebu ladies (either by birth or marriage) of reputable pedigree from all works of life in the age bracket of 1971-1973.
(41) EGBE TOBALASE OBIRIN (AKILE)
This is another age grade group headed by Iyalode Bolanle Kurforiji Adeyeni.
(42) EGBE TOBALASE OBINRIN (RONTEX)
Iyalode Olayinka Momodu is the head.
(43) EGBE BOBAMAYEGUN OBINRIN (AREMO ALARA AKILE)
This female age-grade group is headed by Iyalode Kuburat Aregbe.
(44) EGBE BOBAMAIYEGUN OBINRIN (ASIWAJU AKILE)
Iyalode Oluwakemi Popoola Ango is the Iyalode.
(45) EGBE BOBAMAIYEGUN OKUNRIN (Akile)
They are made up of those born between 1974 to 1976. Giwa Adeyemi Kazeem is the head.
(46) EGBE BOBAMAIYEGUN OKUNRIN (ASIWAJU AKILE)
Giwa Dipo Ogunlana is the President.
(47) EGBE BOBAMAIYEGUN OBINRIN AKILE
Iyalode Islamiat Sowumi is the President.
