Meet The New LAGOS House Of Assembly Members

+The Old Members Who Lost Out

Days after the March 18th, state legislative elections in Lagos, the shape of what the Lagos House of Assembly will look like has emerged. It is going to be an admixture of some of the old lawmakers who have come back, those who lost out and the new members coming in fresh.

Leading the team of returnees is the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. He has been a lawmaker for years.

He has served as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015.  He is a valued member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He is from Agege. And he was born there, on 11 November 1972. He had his primary education at St Thomas Acquinas Pry School, Surulere, Lagos before he proceeded to Archbishop Aggey Memorial Secondary school, Mushin, Ilasamaja, Lagos where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Lagos State University, Lagos in 2006.

In 1999, he contested the seat of Councilor at Agege Local Government under the Alliance for Democracy party and won. He served between 1999 and 2002.

He was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Agege Constituency 1 in 2007. He was reelected in 2011, 2015 and in 2019. He and very many lawmakers, are coming back.

Those who are not returning are as follows: Hon. Olayinka Ogundimu (Agege 2), Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni (Lagos Island 1) who is now the Senator representing Lagos West, taking over from Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Hon. Lanre Oshun (Lagos Mainland II), Hon. Rasheed Makinde (Ifako-Ijaye II), Hon. Hakeem Shokunle, (Oshodi-Isolo 1), Hon. Jude Idimogu (Oshodi-Isolo II), Hon. Folajimi Muhammed (Ikeja 1), Hon. Victor Akande (Ojo 1), Hon. Bisi Yusuf (Alimoso 1), Hon. Ibrahim Layode (Badagry 1),  Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade (Ikorodu 1), Hon. Nurudeen Saka Solaja (Ikorodu), Hon. Bola Macauley (Amuwo Odofin 1), Hon. Fatai Oluwa (Ajeromi Ifelodun 1), Hon. Rotimi Olowo (Shomolu 1), Hon. Rotimi Abiru (Shomolu II), late Hon. Sabur Olayiwola Olawole (Mushin 1),  Hon. Wahab Olumuyiwa Jimoh (Apapa II).

Some of the Lawmakers are not coming back for several reasons. Some did not make it at the primaries. They were beaten at the primaries. Some stepped down because they have done 3 terms. In the case of Hon. Lanre Oshun he has done 4th term and he won the Federal House of Reps. seat Hon. Rasheed Makinde didn’t win primaries. Hon. Jude Idimogun stepped down.

In Ibeju Lekki, out o f the 2 lawmakers only one is coming back, the other lawmaker didn’t win primaries.

Setonji David (Badagry 02), Chairman House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Femi Saheed (Kosofe 2), Hon. Desmond Elliot (Surulere), Hon. Noheem Adams (Eti-Osa 1), Hon. Folajimi Jubril (Ikeja 2), Hon. Ademola Richard Kasunmu (Ikeja 1), Chairman House Committee on Lands, Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Miranda (Apapa 1) Chief Whip, Hon. Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho 2). Hon. Lukman Orelope (Alimosho 1), Hon. Temitope Adewale (Ifako Ijaye) and Hon. Ajani Owolabi (Mainland).

There are others like Hon. Mosunmola Songodara (Apapa 2), Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji (Ifako-Ijaiye 1), Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa 1), Chairman, House Committee on Budget, Hon. Fatai  Adebola Mojeed (Ibeju Lekki 01),  Hon. Noheem Adams who is the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya (Mushin 01), Chairman, Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho 02) Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Ganiyu B. Sanni (Kosofe 01), Chairman, Committee on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Lanre Afinni (Lagos Island 02), Chairman, Committee on Science & Technology, Hon. Surajudeen Olatunji (Ojo 02), Chairman, Committee on House Serives, Hon. Ibrahim Ajani (Lagos Mainland 01), Chairman Committee on Youth & Social Development,

Lets tell you about the new entrants. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that the APC won 38 out of the 40 seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly at the state assembly elections in the state.

The Labour Party clinched the last 2 seats of the 40-member Lagos Assembly.
