OTUNBA SOLA ADEWUMI EMERGES NISA PRESIDENT AS HE DEFEATS PAUL JEGEDE OF JAPAUL GROUP

The Nigeria Shipowners Association (NISA) on Thursday elected new executives to pilot its affairs for two years. The election which was held in Lagos saw Otunba Sola Adewumi emerge as the new president of the association.

The position of NISA President 2023 was a contest between Mr. Paul Jegede the Managing Director, of Japaul Group and Otunba Sola Adewumi, Chairman of Equitorial Energy Company. It was a landslide victory for Otunba Sola Adewumi who had 21 votes while his opponent, Mr. Paul Jegede, garnered 2 votes.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the victory, Otunba Sola Adewumi, the newly elected President of NISA, pledged to work closely with association members and other relevant stakeholders in the shipping Industry.
He further promises to revamp the moribund secretariat of the association adding that the Nigerian Maritime Expo NIMAREX will be on focus before the end of the year.

He also promised to work closely with members of the association adding that all hands would be on deck to change the narratives of the shipping business in Nigeria.

According to him, plans are already afoot to reunite ship owners in Nigeria, stressing the need for practitioners in the sub-sector of the maritime sector to speak with one voice.

Meanwhile, Otunba Olawale Jubril emerged unopposed for the post of General Secretary, NISA with 20 votes.

However, Gbolahan Adu emerged as Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Malik as Financial Secretary and Wor-Degbetuwa Sammy emerged as Treasurer.

Also speaking, Chief Isaac Jolapomo, founding father and former President of NISA called on the newly elected executives to work closely with members.

Jolapomo further expressed satisfaction with the election, while urging those who didn’t win in the contest to support the new executives in order to help grow NISA.

Observers including Maritime Union representatives, Master Mariners and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA at the election further expressed satisfaction
