Why YEMISI ADEAGA Lost His 2nd Term Bid…

…As Central Council Of IBADAN Indigenes (CCII) Pres. Gen.

It is no longer news that the much talked about President General election of the prestigious Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has come and gone. It has also become a stale gist that the incumbent President General of the highly referred Club, Prince Yemisi Adeaga Lost his second term bid.

Adeaga, in the recently held and keenly contested election, was defeated by Barrister Wole Ajewole. Ajewole, a nominee from Oluyole Social Elite Club scored 46 votes to defeat Adeaga who polled 39 votes.

What has remained the major gist in town, however, is the many controversies that trailed the electioneering process and accusations levied against the immediate past administration of CCII led by Prince Yemisi Adeaga.

It would be recalled that Barr. Niyi Ajewole who has emerged the winner was at some point disqualified by some members and Chairman of the 2023 CCII Electoral Committee as directed by the BoT after he had previously been cleared to contest. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Senator. Dr. Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II had to intervene in the crisis for the election to hold as scheduled for 14th April, 2023. Part of the crisis, we gathered, was also the misappropriation of fund accusation raised against Adeaga.

He’s also said to have ran a one man show all through his tenure as President General. All these and many more were said to have really worked against Adeaga at the poll. The crisis was said to be so messy. So much that a good number of past President Generals of the Association were said to have worked against Yemisi Adeaga’s re-election bid.

While some elders have insisted that searchlight must be beamed on the past administration, Adaaga has said that his traducers are only on mischief mission. Saying that CCII under his leadership didn’t only bring development but also improved the management of resources of the Association.

In his congratulatory message to the newly elected President General of the Association, Adaaga maintained that he didn’t lose the election to his opponent but the forces sponsored against him by his predecessors. He said: “I congratulate my opponent, Barr. Niyi Ajewole on his victory in the just concluded CCII general election and wish him the very best. I appreciate all the constituents clubs who believed in my leadership for their unwavering commitment and support which has not only brought development to CCII but also improved the management of resources of the Council. I appreciate the candidates in my team for their doggedness and spirit of sportsmanship.

I also appreciate all members of my campaign team, supporters, friends, and families for making it possible to face the struggle against mischief, defamation and character assassination which was deployed by the opposing team, to garner pity votes. Special appreciation goes to my wife, Princess Oluyemisi Adeaga and my children for their unquantifiable support and love.

I also acknowledge the effort of some past President-Generals notably the letter circulated by Chief Bayo Oyero to all constituent clubs on the eve of the election to campaign against me. I take the result as the will of God who will serve each and everyone of us according to what we deserve.

A good take home for us despite the glaring attempts to circumvent the CCII constitution, character assassination and mischief backed up by the external forces who have made themselves kingmakers, is that our performance and leadership skills earned us 45% votes against 53% secured by the winner.

Conclusively, the interest of Ibadan remains paramount to me and I thank God for the opportunity He has given me to serve Ibadanland and Nigeria at large in a humanitarian capacity, this will continue to enhance my contributions towards having a better society.”

CCII is an umbrella body for all the socio-cultural societies/clubs of Ibadan extraction both at home and in the diaspora.
