Across Ijebuland, family name, Osinusi rings a bell. He has a rich pedigree. The big news is that Chief (Barrister) Wahab Osinusi who is from the popular Osinusi family in Ijebu-Ode is 90. He is one of Awujale of Ijebu, Oba Sikiru Adetona’s Otunbas. He is the Otunba Fidipote of Ijebu and he is the current Chairman of the Council of Otunbas.
The Awujale likes him so much. The Awujale does not joke with him as the Chairman, Ojude-Oba Festival Committee.
At every Ojude-Oba he usually delivers a speech on behalf the Awujale, the organising committee and all sons and daughters of Ijebu widely spread across the globe.
He is the one who usually welcomes all the guests to Ojude-Oba. Despite all these, he remains a quiet man.
He doesn’t like publicity. That is why he seldom grants interviews. Call him a conservative person and you won’t be wrong.
City People must met him once for an interview at his house in Ijebu-Ode and we found him to be a man of simple taste.
Although, he didn’t grant a formal interview, he revealed why he doesn’t like publicity. He said he enjoys his peaceful life.
The big news now is that he turned 90 on 2nd June, 2023, but he will be celebrating it on 3rd June, 2023 in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. Lets tell you more. Otunba Wahab Olaniran Osinusi was born on June 2nd, 1932 into the famous Fidipote Royal Family of Ijebu-Ode. And it is part of the Awujale dynasty of Ijebuland.
Lets tell you about his late father, Alhaji Prince Abdulkareem Oladipupo Osinusi, alias Orimonise, Balogun Ajojis Egba (meaning the Leader of the non egbas in Egbaland.
He was a prominent Textile Merchant at Itoku Market in Abeokuta.
His late mum was Alhaja Jarinat Aduke Osinusi was also a popular Textiles Merchant at Ita Ale Market, in Ijebu-Ode. She is a family member of the prestigious Balogun Otun dynasty in Ijebu-Ode.
He started his elementary school at Reverend Kuti Primary School in Abeokuta and Abeokuta Grammar School for his secondary education. He worked briefly at the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Yaba, Lagos before proceeding to London in 1958.
He read Law and was called to the Bar in London in 1962.
Immediately, he came back to Nigeria, he worked as Junior Counsel in the chambers of late Chief Ezekiel Akinola Cole, Ibadan.
He later established his own law firm Oladipupo Chambers in Ijebu-Ode. He founded WACUS International Hotel in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode over 50 years ago.
He was a pioneer member, Social Secretary and General Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Club. He was among the first of Otunba of Ijebuland, as Otunba Fidipote and first General Secretary, currently Chairman of Council of Otunba, Ojude-Oba Organising Committee, Fidipote Ruling House and Balogun Muslim, Oke-Imale of Ita-Ogbin Mosque, Ijebu-Ode.
