Yaba Evergreen Happy Hour

The name Yaba has been in existence since 1895.

Yaba has to its name the first of many things ie Religious activities, Academic activities, Entertainment activities, etc.

Yaba has undoubtedly been one of the longest-reigning entertainment communities spanning over 70 years.

Music giants like King Sunny Ade(Ariya ), Fela Kuti ( Kakadu), Ebenezer Obey ( Miliki Spot), Roy Chicago ( Abalabi), Adeolu Akisanya ( Western Hotel) , Victor Olaiya ( Cool Cats Inn), Orlando Owoh ( Watch Tower), Bobby Benson ( Hotel Bobby), etc all reached the peak of their career in Yaba Community and had popular playing spots in Yaba and its environ.

The Yaba Evergreen Happy Hour was a collaboration between Evergreen Musical Company and Yaba Local Government. The intent was in a bid to continuously promote the agelong tradition of live bands in that community while at the same time acknowledging great musicians who have contributed greatly to music in Nigeria.

This event which was held on December 15th had in attendance music lovers from different walks of life. The high point of the event was when two popular musicians were acknowledged with awards and cash gifts for their toil and creativity. The chairman of the event, Hon Kayode Omiyale ( Chairman of Yaba Local Government)who presented the award and cash gift encouraged the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award Yinka Davies and Prince Segun Adewale not to relent in their efforts.

The popular and fast-growing MFM Band was at the event to Serenade the audience with some popular highlife music. Also on the bandstand was Royal Bell Band which took the audience captive with popular Old tunes of Lagos. Kofo Wonder, Pedro Agidigbo, Lady Julie and Omileyan were also there to serenade the crowd while Yemi Sodimu one of the best thespians in Nigeria participated in the event.
