why radio presenters are  rushing to success FM

by Dare Adeniran

The ongoing intense competition among radio stations in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, is getting interesting by the day. In fact both new and the existing stations are currently deploying all kinds of strategies to outdo each other-in terms of content, staff welfare packages and what have you.

All these, of course, are unexpected judging by the number of radio stations now operating in Ibadan. The city alone, as at the last count, has over 20 FM radio stations and still counting.

The stations, though with diverse content and styles of presentation, are literally competing for the same advertisers and listeners.

The development is not only fostering a kind of paradigm shift in the broadcasting industry, but also creating new opportunities for both young and veteran presenters to choose a radio station that fits their styles and where they would be well remunerated.

One of the new entrants in the industry that seems to be battle ready, however, is Success 105.3 FM, owned by Dr. Tope Odetayo, a serial entrepreneur and the Chairman of Top Success Global Limited.

Success FM, within a short time, has remained vibrant amongst its peers, not only in creating interesting contents to the delight of listeners but also a station that has poached the highest number of presenters from other radio stations in Ibadan.

The station is now among the new radio stations rocking the airwaves in Ibadan and Oyo State.

This is the station at the centre of what is described by many as a ‘transfer widow’ period among presenters in the ancient city.

About ten presenters have cross-carpeted from different radios stations to join Top Success FM, and more, we gathered, are planning to join soon.

The likes of popular sports presenter, Babatunde Saheed (Mr Sports), Omoniyi Samson Homosan, Waheed Akintayo (Ilumoka Presenter), Adeshina Jagunmade, a.k.a Paj 1, Elereoba and others have all left their previous employers to join Success FM.

To show its readiness in setting a new standard in the broadcast industry, the management of the radio station, just a few weeks ago, presented about 20 porsh official cars to some dedicated and hardworking staff.

As its mission statement connotes, Success FM is founded to entertain, to inform, and to connect.

“We are driven to promote unity, diversity, and cultural exchange. Through our radio broadcasts and online airings, Success FM is steadfast in serving South Western Nigeria, catering to the needs of Nigerians residing in other regions, and bridging the gap with those in the diaspora. We aim to be your compass for navigating the realms of sports, entertainment, and global affairs.” The mission statement reads.

In case you still don’t catch the drift, Success 105.3 FM was founded by Tope Odetayo, the owner of the popular Top Success mobile phones and electronics in Ibadan. Success FM is located inside Top Success Mall, Beside Wema Bank Plc, Mokola, Ibadan.

Odetayo, is also the Chairman of the Association of Mobile Phones & Allied Products Traders of Nigeria (AMPAT). He is arguably one of the most talked about entrepreneurs in Ibadan presently.

He appears determined to spare no cost in making sure his radio station gets to the top of the table as the most listened to radio stations in Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria generally.
