EBENEZER OBEY Set To Celebrate 82nd Birthday

Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey will be 82 in a few days time. And he is looking forward to it with a lot of excitement. He will be marking it. It is a very important date in his life.

He has every reason to celebrate. He has been through a lot lately. He has gone through some health challenges which made him undergo Prostate Enlargement surgery.

He has had some other surgeries in the recent past and he survived all of it.

And so, as he turns 82 on 3rd April 2024 he wants to give back to society. He will be organising a medical outreach for the less priviledge. He will also be giving out palliatives to the less priviledge. And on his birthday, he will be hosting a Thanksgiving Service, in Lagos, at his church, Decross Gospel Mission, 13/15 Oyewole Street, Off Mulero, in the Agege area of Lagos.

In view of the sober mood of the nation, there will be no big party. All he desires is to give to the less priviledge and the needy.

Last Thursday, at his Lagos home, City People Publisher, Seye Kehinde, spent quality time with him. He explained what he went through during his surgery and why a lot of men who have attained the age of 40 should begin to learn about Prostate Enlargement and Prostate Cancer.

Ebenezer Obey says as a survivor, he has decided to commence a massive enlightenment campaign for all men to be aware of this health challenge called Prostate Enlargement.

“I am using my 82nd Birthday to thank God and appreciate Gods love for me”, he told City People.

“I know God loves me. I can see that. I thank God for all he has done for me in life, especially for making me clock 82”.

“I have come to appreciate God now, more than ever, before”.

“But for him, I would not be here talking about celebrating my 82nd birthday. It is a Thanksgiving Birthday that I am doing because Prostate Enlargement is an ailment that is putting the lives of many people who have it in jeorpady. It has killed many men. And it is very important to educate the people about it”.

“Parents must know about it. All men must know about it. It is a disease that is meant for men. It can happen to any man from the age of 40. If you look at what happened to the King of England you will know what I mean. Prince Charles suffers this same ailment, Prostate Enlargement. If you are lucky, and you detect early you can still treat it, but when it is cancerous, it becomes more difficult to treat. As I was passing through mine, Prince Charles of England was equally going through his own problem. I am very lucky that mine was not cancerous. Similarly, you know I have had a series of operations in my life”.

“I have had eye operations. I also had my 2 legs operated upon in the year 1980. You will recollect that City People did a big show for Ebenezer Obey many years back. We called it a particular name then.

Something like Obey back on stage. Do you still remember? Obey back to stage at Agidingbi at All Seasons Plaza, many years ago. In 1980, I had my leg operation. I had a series of complications. After the operation in London, God intervened and brought me back home. This time again, I was operated on 2 times. The first one wasn’t a comfortable experience at all. For about 2 months, I went through a lot then. The first operation was successful, but there was Blood Clot. So I had to go for a 2nd one. After the 1st operation, there was a problem, because the urine did not come out. I had to be taken back to the Theatre again for the 2nd time”.

“Again, like what happened in 1980, I thought the end had come. But God intervened and here I am today, again. I thank God.”

“Here I am talking about Birthday.”

“That is why I have to mark my 82nd birthday in a low key way. It is a Thanksgiving”.

“I intend to reach out to many people, especially the needy and the less priviledge, and give them some palliatives. And to have a Thanksgiving Service in my church in Lagos here. On my Birthday. Those are the things I want to do”.

“I have to thank many people, too numerous to mention. These are people who sent me messages and visited me in the hospital. Those who went into Prayer and Fasting, all over the world.”

“And I believe in Prayers. I have seen God do what looks impossible. And the Bible says, with God, all things are possible. Nothing is impossible for God to do”.

Mine is a confirmation, that with God, all things are possible.

“I have seen the mood of the nation and what the nation is passing through. I want to advice as I have done in my past songs, encouraging people to go into farming. All of us should go into farming and Agriculture”.

“We cannot depend on the food that we don’t grow. If we depend on the food that we don’t grow, we  would be at the mercy of the foreign countries growing food. So, all of us both Christians and Muslims and all Nigerians, should embark on Agriculture.”

“The earlier we start, the better. We should not postpone it, if not we would be using our money to buy food grown elsewhere. We must set out now”.

“I believe in Prayers. I pray for the present government to overcome and find solutions to all our problems and the challenges we are facing. It is better for us to pray. But prayer is not enough. Let us Pray and let us grow what we eat”.

Let every Nigerian go into farming”.

“There are various ways of doing farming these days. Our youths, especially must go into farming. It is very, very important”.
