He was recently interviewed by PRECIOUS POMAA where he spoke about his journey so far and other relevant issues.
Can you tell us about your journey into the music industry and what inspired you to pursue a career in music?
My music journey has been an interesting one I must say. I won a singing competition when I was still in school (University of Imo State), after that, things somewhat changed for me, my friend (DJ Billz) told me we can take it to another level. Then we came to the Island In Lagos, met a guy called DJ Chi, and everything started officially. So I’d say my music journey inspired me to see it through to the end.
How do you approach the songwriting process, and what themes or experiences do you draw on for inspiration?
Whenever I want to write a song for someone, i remove myself from my realm and I put myself in his/her realm and listen to whatever comes to my mind at that time, while I’m in his/her realm, the song is birthed and I go ahead to write.
“Kilode” was a significant collaboration with Davido and Peruzzi. Can you share your experience working with them and how it impacted your career?
It was a wonderful interesting experience working with them to produce that masterpiece. The initial plan was to feature just Peruzzi, but God changed the plans and gave me Davido on that song. After we finished recording Peruzzi, three days later I was called back to the house. We went into the studio, they played the song, I heard Davido’s voice and I was blown away. I really thank God for that. And it has impacted a lot on my career, made me more confident, more positive and it established the belief that anything is possible.
What led to your decision to sign with Fly Boy Inc and G-Worldwide Entertainment. And how has this new partnership influenced your music and career trajectory?
I signed with G-Worldwide because of their transparency and genuine intention to work with me. From the moment Kizz Daniel and Emperor Geezy told me about signing me on, I could tell that they didn’t come to play. Emperor Geezy is someone that has always been zealous and passionate about the work. So if he says he’s gonna get it done, then he definitely will. He presented me the contract with utmost transparency and that led me to sign with him. So far, it’s been a wonderful relationship, Lavida is still banging everywhere and in the nearest future we will definitely achieve a lot together.
Your debut single, under your new management, ‘Lavida’, has been met with considerable success. Could you elaborate on the creative process behind this song and its reception by audiences?
It’s all positive vibes, happiness and good life in the song. We were in the studio (I and Xtofa, my producer) and the energy was just right. He played the beat, I jumped on it and we created magic. It’s been getting really good reception. A lot of people are familiar with the song now, it charted on Apple Music Top 100 in Nigeria and the streams are doing pretty well too. Surely there will be more achievements as time goes on.
Beyond your solo career, you’ve contributed to hits like “One Side” by Iyanya and “Away” by Davido. How do you balance your personal artistic vision with collaborating on projects for other artists?
I try to find the equilibrium in the work because it really can twist your mind, but then again I enjoy making music. So I just consider it as another channel of music. Also, some of the works were joint efforts, co writers like Roger Lino, Shugavybz also were present thereby making some of the works easier. But to be honest right now I’m in a different phase of my life where my sole focus is on myself and how to be better and get to where I wanna be, so I won’t be writing any songs for other artists for now.
Your music seems to resonate with audiences across Africa and beyond. How do you navigate cultural influences while maintaining a unique sound that appeals to diverse listeners?
It’s all in the music, I try to be original, but having the intention of making my song a global one. I don’t think one has to be influenced by any culture or music generally. I feel that every creative should first accept the sound he/she created, then everyone will follow suit, irrespective of tradition or cultural influences.
What do you hope listeners take away from your music, especially considering its impact on the Nigerian and African music scenes?
My music preaches Love, Happiness, Positivity and Lifestyle, so if you listen to my music or attend my concerts, know that you’re going to leave with a high spirit. Our music has made uncountable impact to the music scene, especially with the rise of Afrobeats, now it has become a household genre in the world and I’m happy for that. I simply want to impact more and touch more lives with my music.
In what ways do you see yourself evolving as an artist in the coming years, and are there any specific goals or milestones you’re aiming to achieve?
I see myself traveling to countries I’ve never heard of and filling up the biggest space there, I see myself breaking records with my music. I see myself topping the world chart, I see myself evolving into a beast that I am. Call me Number 1 Rockstar The International Badman.
Social media plays a significant role in today’s music industry. How do you leverage on platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok to connect with your audience and promote your music effectively?
I make sure I post on all of the respective social platforms from time to time. And I try to engage anyone interested in following me by basically posting my creative works and the processes involved sometimes, so y’all can be involved in my journey to achieving greatness.
