On Saturday, October 26th, the family, friends, and associates of Chief Samuel Adegbuyi Ilori gathered to celebrate his 70th birthday with an event befitting the occasion.

The celebrations began with a heartfelt thanksgiving service at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sagamu, Ogun State. The two-hour service honoured Chief Ilori and his wife, Chief Mrs. Bolanle Adegbuyi Ilori, celebrating the gift of life and the faithfulness of God throughout their journey. The service featured hymns, prayers, and an inspiring sermon, offering a moment of reflection and gratitude for the celebrant and his loved ones.

After the service, the couple and their family enjoyed lovely photo sessions with their guests; officiating clergy, church members, and friends, many of whom came from far and near before heading to the grand reception.

 

A Grand Reception at 62:37 Event Centre

The reception took place at the 62:37 event centre, a popular venue in Sagamu’s GRA district. The venue’s entrance boasted stunning decorations, hinting at the elegance awaiting inside. The hall was transformed into a warm and welcoming space, with a refined décor that gave it a special charm. Welcoming ushers guided guests to their seats, while DJ LALA filled the air with lively music.

The highlight of the evening was the grand entrance of Chief Ilori, his wife, their children, and grandchildren. The family shared a joyful dance, showcasing their steps and creating an infectious energy that spread to the audience.

 

Celebrating a Life of Impact

Senator Sefiu Gbenga Kaka, former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, served as the chairman of the day and officially opened the reception. In his speech, he praised Chief Ilori’s character, describing him as a lifelong friend since their days at Molusi College in Ijebu-Igbo. He recounted memories of their enduring friendship and celebrated Ilori’s contributions to the community and beyond.

Following the speech, Chief Ilori and his wife cut a beautifully designed birthday cake, cheered on by their guests. Their grandchildren also took to the stage, sharing touching words about their beloved grandfather.

Adding to the festivities, the renowned Akewi, “Agbeke Elewi,” and her troupe delivered a captivating performance, praising Chief Ilori with poetic tributes that resonated with the audience.

 

A Night of Joy and Celebration

As the night progressed, the celebrant and his family took to the dance floor once more, joined by their guests in a jubilant celebration. DJ LALA, accompanied by his hype-man, set the tone for an energetic after-party, keeping the dance floor lively. The celebration was a memorable occasion for both the hosts and their guests, filled with joy, music, and camaraderie.

 

About the Celebrant

Chief Samuel Adegbuyi Ilori hails from Atikori, Ijebu-Igbo, in Ogun State. A proud alumnus of Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo, and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, he began his career with Toki Pharmaceuticals, Lagos, and Equitorial Insurance, Ibadan. After completing his studies in 1980, he joined Nigerian Alliance Assurance Insurance Company, Ibadan, where he served as the Sagamu branch manager.

In the early 1990s, Chief Ilori relocated to Chicago, USA, where he established two successful businesses: Semade International Limited and Broadway Communications. He has since retired and returned to Nigeria to enjoy his golden years with his family.

Chief Ilori’s dedication to his community and faith has earned him recognition, including the title of Obayoruwa of Atikori Kingdom conferred by Oba Ibitoye Solaja, the Kegbo of Atikori, Ijebu-Igbo, in 2015. He remains an active member of the Catholic community, serving as a parishioner at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sagamu, a member of All Saints’ Society at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Okeshopin, Ijebu-Igbo, and a respected member of the Catholic Progressive Union (CPU).

Chief Ilori is also a committed member of the Ijebu-Igbo Descendants Union in the Diaspora, the Atikori Council of Chiefs, the Bobagbimo Ijebu-Igbo, and Molusian ’70.

The 70th birthday celebration of Chief Samuel Adegbuyi Ilori was a testament to a life well-lived, filled with accomplishments, love, and the admiration of his community. It was a joyous day that will be remembered for years to come.
