Patricia Onumonu, popularly known by her label Trish O’ Couture is one of the top fashion designers ruling the fashion scene with her premium fashion label located in Victoria Island, Lagos. The celebrity designer who launched her label 9 years ago revealed that she was inspired into fashion by her mum who used to be a seamstress and learned how to start beading from the age of 12.
After graduating from the University of Lagos with a degree in Philosophy, Patricia decided to follow her passion in fashion and groom herself on the basics and details of female fashion. Having a keen eye for fabrics, Patricia is able to select fabrics that pay distinct tribute to femininity.
With the use of her vivid imagination, Patricia is able to capture fairy-tale in modern day fashion. An idealist at heart, Patricia is inspired by the feminine form, fairy tales and the concept of love and romance which she tries to infuse into her fashion and has successfully been able to satisfy a large clientele.
Her label Trish O Couture was successfully launched in 2007 as a luxury brand for women with finer taste in fabrics and style, and has focused on bespoke and ready to wear. Her collections are inspired by fairy tales, romance, and feminine beauty with an African feel to it.
The designer makes use of lace, velvet, sequins, feather, leather and Ankara prints on chiffon fabrics to portray both the sexiness yet softness of womanhood with the aim to have a global appeal to women across board.
Her label has been adorned by many Nigerian celebrities and showbiz stars including star actress Monalisa Chinda, Stephanie Linus,Juliet Ibrahim, Toke Makinwa and a long list of others. Her designs are for the style savvy clients who are generous with their pockets when it comes to quality wears.
Her upscale fashion outfit is always a mecca of sort for many society women and corporate big babes who love to stand out from the crowd when they step out. The distinguished designer who has showcased her collections on different prestigious fashion shows launched her new fashion plaza Trish ‘O’ Plaza on 27, Karimu Kotun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday 29th of August and it was a grand event that converged fashion icons .The classy event had an equal taste of fashion, entertainment and sumptuous refreshment.
The ceremony anchored by TV personality Layole Oyatogun also marked her foray into Interior designing. At the occasion, she unveiled some of her mind blowing collections to the delight of all guests present and it also served as an opportunity for all to make purchases of the items that caught their fancy. Her interior outfit which is also situated in the same plaza boasts of beautiful and exquisitely made Italian furniture and furnishings. Although she was very busy at the event, we stole some moments to engage her in a chat the designer; she revealed that one of her key secrets of success is good customer relation. In her words, I always pet my customers because I know I need them. Even if they are wrong, I still listen to them because I want their money.
“Patricia revealed that she launched into fashion designing professionally 9 years ago with the launch of her label Trish O couture which she coined out of her name Patricia, and the journey has been one of diligence, hard work and consistency. From her intricate and colourful designs, it is evident that her designing skills are inborn. “I was born into fashion and I grew up seeing my mum making clothes, so fashion designing practically became a part of me at a very young age” she says. Her collections are bright, beautiful and captivating. For the tall and elegant fashion buff, Trish Couture is not just a fashion outfit but a haven for everything fashionable for women.
“Trish has been around for 9 years and it is actually a one stop shop where you can come in and find what you want unless you don’t have the money. It is a store where we deal with anything female. I make different collections to satisfy different tastes, I make ready to wear, crazy, simple, classic woman, everyday woman. We have the services that satisfy every kind of individual taste”. Predominant in her collections are exclusive Ankara designs with beautiful floral patches, “It’s a beautiful collection that comes from floral, rainbow and I love colours” she enthused.
On her latest move with Trish O interiors, she explained “I had to think of the next business to do, how to go to the next level and because I have always loved to put things together, the next thing that came on my mind was Interior because it also has to do with fashion, arts and creativity. I also see interior as part of me hence juggling the two is not difficult because it deals with creativity, fabrics and all. The interior Outfit part of Trish O has always been and the materials for the interiors are all imported”.
