St. Peter’s Church (FAJI) Gives Back To Society

The DioceseInter-Society Peter’s Church (Faji) Lagos took the 2nd day in April 2018 to give back to society in a sporting event involving Women, Youth and the Children. The Event W.I.S.E (Women Inter-Society Sporting Event) took place at the Campus Memorial Stadium Lagos Island, Lagos on Easter Monday involving women from different societies in and outside the church. The stadium was filled as it was a Public Holiday and that availed everyone to participate fully in the event. The first edition of W.I.S.E was in 2017 and it only hosted Women Societies in St. Peter’s Church alone, but this years edition which is the second, hosted societies from other churches.

The invited societies include C.T.B. St. Andrew’s Church, Okepopo, Women Organisation –Church of Nativity, Parkview Ikoyi and YWCA-St. David Church-Lafaji. The participating societies at St. Peter’s Church include: Egbe Ireti, Ladies Christian Fellowship, Egbe Ifeloju, Egbe Oluwa yio se, Busy Bees, Egbe Iye, Ladies Helper’s Union, Ladies Workers Uinion, Christ Auxiliary Ladies Society (CAS) and Young Women Fellowship.

The event started with praise Aerobies which lasted for an hour, followed by an Opening Prayer which was conducted by Very Revrend Yinka Omololu. The National Anthem and Pledge was recited and guests were introduced by the comperes in person of Mr. Adewunmi and Mrs Lara Akande. The Sporting welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Caroline Akingbesote and the Chairman’s opening remarks was done by Engr. Bolaji Akinsanya.

 

The Sporting Event included a match past, 50 Meter is Walk Race, Threading The Needle, Egg And Spoon Race, Sack Race, Tug Of War, Elderly Walk Race, 80years and above, Run Race, Children (Boys/Girls), Youth (Male/Female), Picking The Balls (Children), Hand Ball (Female), Football(male), Dancing Competition, Dancing Round The Chair (Children), Women’s Dance, Men’s Dance, Women Elderly Dance, Best Over All Dance And Couple’s Dance.

The event started with the children race, picking of balls, sack race e.t.c Different societies demonstrated different skills, as they match had past the Special Guest of Honour. They saluted in different styles to the amazement of the viewers.
Other sporting activities were conducted after the match past with various groups winning in the Gold, Bronze and Silver categories. Collation, announcement of result and presentation of trophies to different categories was handled by the Elder Class. Mrs. Dena Rose Ajayi who is the chairperson of the Organizing Committee gave the Vote of Thanks appreciating the sponsors and everyone that contributed to the success the event.

The closing prayer was rendered by the Vicar of St. Peter’s Church (Faji) in person of Ven. C.E.O Akingbesote and everyone was refreshed with varieties of food from different caterers.

The event was proudly supported by Nestle Waters Ltd., Mrs S.O. Durojaiye, Yetunde Komolafe, Mrs. V.I Dawodu, Mrs. Folashade Thoma –Fahm, Sister Lara Fasida, Dr. Mrs. Aderele Somorin, Mrs. A.E Damola, Mrs. A. E Aranmolate, Mrs. Iyabo Rewane and Mrs. Iyabo Solade. Guests visibly present were Ambassador J.D. O Sokoya. Col. (Engr.) C.A. Odebunmi, very Revd. Yinka Omololu, Navy. Capt. M.Agbe, Engr. Bolaji Akinsanya-Browne, Mrs. Abah Oputa, Ven. C. E.O Akingbesote, Mrs. Caroline Akingbesote, Mrs. Bisoye Kujo, Dr. (Mrs) Somorin, Mama Ladipo, Mama Isijola, Mr. Amoye, Mrs Martins.
