There is a buzz world at the venue of the 2018 edition of Mobile World Congress Americas and it is IoT (Internet of things) Encapsulated in that is 5G. The technology show taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California entered it second day with virtually every operator talking about IoT solutions it offers and equipment suppliers talking about 5G.
There is no gainsaying that the future of technology is IoT and that future is already here. Just a few years ago, IoT was only a dream and so many years back, it was but a science fiction. Today IoT is here to stay and any industry that is left behind will be consigned to the dustbin of history.
However, for the world to reap the full benefit of IoT, it requires formidable platform as a conduit. The Chief Executive Officer of Nokia, Rajeev Suri aptly encouraged operators to take a bold step and leave their conform zones in order to unlock the potentials of 5G, which holds a lot of promise for IoT and smart cities.
Hear him, “do we want to stay in our comfort zone, with the same business models that have served us well until now, or do we want to look to the future and embrace new ways of working? Yes, there are challenges, but also immense new opportunity for revenue growth,”
5G is not about doing the same things faster, it’s about doing entirely new things, creating new value, whoever you are and wherever you live. That is a fantastic opportunity. But it’s also a huge responsibility, putting that capability into people’s hands is on us” he says.
Several service providers now see 5G as the best way forward for the future of technology. Some of those leading the charge include, Verizon , Nokia, Samsung and Sprint.
