Banker turned brand consultant, Maria Tofomowo is the pretty wife of Shuga Band boss, Akin Tofomowo. They have been together for close to 12 years and still counting. Their relationship is one that is made in heaven because they complement each other. Unlike her husband, Maria is not as popular but for those who are quite close to the Shuga Band, they will be familiar with her. On Sunday,21st of October, 2018 at the Eko Hotel and suites, Shuga Band celebrated its 20 Years anniversary, tagged Shugarcoated concert and it was an evening of fun where all Shuga lovers came out to celebrate with Akin especially society women from all walks of life. Maria was up and doing at the event making sure all went according to plan. She was the background expert that put everything in place. She looked beautiful in an ivory dress with a matching shoe and took part in some of the activities of the event. Her love story with her husband Akin dates back over 10 years ago when they met at an event, they got married shortly after and their marriage is blessed with 2 kids. In any of Akin’s speech or interview on the journey of Shuga band so far, he never forgets to give kudos to his wife, praise her and thank her for being a complete support system to him. This was made evident at the event in Akin’s documentary that was showed where he talked about Shuga Band at 20 and also spoke glowingly about his wife, calling her, his unhackable software who makes everything goes around for him. He also revealed that it is his wife that manages him and every other thing about him. She is on the board of the Shuga Limb Foundation and has successfully championed the initiative and Public Relations for the Shuga Limb Foundation for the past 7 years. She is practically involved in everything her husband does. Maria is the Principal Brand Consultant at Crystal Reece Media. She is a brand visionary, gifted with an eye for the potential viabilities of SMEs, through the light of her years of experience as well as knowledge gained in the scope of brand development and management, corporate communication and digital marketing strategy. She got married and left banking to concentrate fully on branding her husband’s image. She was born to a father who is a retired soldier and her mum is a businesswoman. She wanted to study Law but ended up studying creative arts.
She obtained her first degree in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos and my master’s degree in Media and Communication from the prestigious School of Media and Communication Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos. She further obtained an Advanced Certificate in Strategic Brand Management from the London School of Business and Finance, UK, a diploma in Digital Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, as well as a certificate in Integrated Brand Experience from the Orange Academy, Lagos. She is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK, respectively. She has worked with organizations such as Stanbic IBTC, LAPO Microfinance Bank, and Overland Airways. With over 7 years cognate experience as a Brand Communication Professional, she birthed Chrystal Reece Media – a creative and brand strategy company for SME’s, to create compact campaigns with very high consideration on SME budget, as well as applying same business principles as large brands to yield positive results and business growth to compete in the marketplace.
