The death of my beloved wife and two kids was the saddest moment of my life,” veteran Yoruba actor Tajudeen Oyewole, aka Abija, has revealed.
The 66-year-old thespian said that the tragic incident hugely affected his acting career as he suffered from bouts of depression.
“The saddest moment of my life was when my beloved wife (Iya Biodun) died. It was like four days to the Sallah festival that year,” he narrated.
Continuing, the actor, who is best known for his mystic roles, said, “In fact, I had bought ram for the family to celebrate the Muslim Festival when the incident happened.
“A few days before the festival, I had to travel from my house in Ibadan to participate in a stage play in Lalupon, Iwo, and some other towns. The show was scheduled for the evening, but due to the long distance, I had to embark on the journey in the morning. Before leaving the house, I prayed with my family and wished them a happy celebration in advance.”
The actor said he didn’t know that moment would be the last he would spend together with one of his wives. On getting to the location in Lalupon, his younger brother, whom he left at home with his family, had gotten to the venue before him.
“I was shocked to see him at the show. He told me that my wife was critically ill, and the doctor told him she needed an operation to survive the sickness.
“I told him (my brother) that it was too late to travel back home. I suggested we leave the location before daybreak the next day. I did not know that my wife was dead.
“Meanwhile, he already announced the death of my wife to many of my colleagues at that event. Getting home, I met the corpse of my lovely wife.”
Abija expressed that his wife’s death caused a tsunami of grief and bereavement, as he also lost two kids.
“After my wife’s departure, I also lost my two beautiful daughters to death,” he said.
According to him, the whole disaster was a spiritual attack from his former boss, as they both had a misunderstanding during that period.
The legendary actor recently leveraged social media to seek financial assistance from his fans. During a live session on Tiktok, Abija posted his account details in the comment section to appeal for help from fans.
