Details Of His Classy Party In LAGOS
On Sunday 8th October, 2023, veteran Journalist and Publisher of First Weekly Magazine, Dayo Asaju celebrated his 60th birthday at the Beehive Events Centre located within the highbrow Alausa area of Ikeja.
The classy and eventful ceremony was attended by family, friends and associates of the celebrant. They all came in the numbers to rejoice with the man of the moment who just climbed the 6th floor to join the cliques of sexagenarians.
Among top dignitaries that graced the occasion were elder statesman, one-time Governor of Enugu State and senator of the federal republic of Nigeria, Chief Jim Ifeanyi Nwobodo and his beautiful wife, Mrs. Patricia Nwobodo as well as Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon a.k.a GOS. Their presence at the ceremony was well acknowledged and celebrated. Also worthy of note were crops of seasoned journalists on seat. They include the likes of the Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Government; Gboyega Akosile, Kunle Bakare, Mayor Akinpelu, Akin Amodu, Lanre Alfred, Tunde Moshood, Wale Olaleye, Dare Babarinsa, Femi Akintunde Johnson, Seun Oloketuyi, and a host of others. They really came around to celebrate an iconic colleague of theirs, Dayo Asaju who clocked 60 years of age.
The ceremony was anchored by 2 veterans one; a Master of Ceremony Par Excellence, Gbenga Adeyinka and ace actress, Foluke Daramola. They both combined well in giving the event a deserving and classy touch. Seeing them on stage spiced the afternoon more.
Paying special tribute to Dayo Asaju was Mrs. Nwobodo who addressed the hall on behalf of her husband, the distinguished senator. She extolled Asaju as a stand out and through bred journalist whose humility she described as highly intimidating. She spoke about how they got to meet him in the 90s and how he has been part of the Nwobodos over the years. She and her husband therefore wished him a more prosperous life ahead as he celebrated at 60.
Among those who took the honour of giving complementary tributes about the celebrants were Mrs. Adenike Asaju, wife of the celebrant and her son, Mr. Kunle Bakare of Encomium Magazine; the popular Ibadan based journalist called Mr. Parrot, family and associates. They all commended the celebrant for his sense of humility which is second to none. Even one of the anchors of the event Foluke Daramola testified that Mr. Asaju is not one of those journalists who became popular by writing scandalous stories.
Activities done to mark the occasion was the grand arrival of the celebrant and his wife as they danced their way into the hall and to their well-prepared seats. There was the cutting of the elegant and beautifully designed birthday cakes all indicating 60 all over it, being the new age of the man of the moment. A number of guests who were above 60 were called out to admonish the new sexagenarian on life at 60 and what the new age requires from him.
Also worthy of note was presentation of award plaques to a few dignitaries who have greatly impacted Mr. Asaju and humanity in general. He used the award as a way of appreciating them for what they have done in making him whom he is today. These awards of special recognition were given to the likes of Chief Jim Ifeanyi Nwobodo, late Anglican Archbishop Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye, founder of Heart of Gold Children’s Hospice; Mrs. Laja Adedoyin, Publisher of Encomium Magazine; Mr. Kunle Bakare, Mr. Femi Akintunde Johnson, and Publisher of Global Excellence Magazine; Mayor Akinpelu.
The high point of the ceremony was when the celebrant caught the entire hall unaware as he renewed his vows made over 2 decades ago with his darling wife, Mrs. Adenike right before their guests. It was a moment radiating love and affection as Mr. Asaju narrated his very humble beginning with his precious wife and how they have together scaled the many hurdles of life. While he publicly re-expressed his sincere heartfelt love to her, he went on to present to her an expensive but classy diamond ring to reaffirm his love for her. He thanked her for always standing by him all through the thick and thin of marital life. He also thanked their beloved children for showing understanding and not letting them down.
Immediately after this, the dance floor was open for the celebrant and his wife where they gave their very best on stage as they danced to the music of King Jide Harmony Live Band. They both had great fun on the dance floor as friends, family and associates joined them to catch-in on the funfair.
